I got some new fountain pens from five below the other day. The set included 2 pens, one with an EF nib and the other a XF nib, and four ink cartridges. EF stands for Extra Fine, but so does XF, which is a little confusing.
I wish I could do some fancy calligraphy, but my penmanship is horrific. Instead I just hack away at a page, laying down ink like a butcher. It often feels like I'm drawing with a knife! Sometimes I draw so hard that I cut into the paper...
I wanted a real chance to test my new pens, so I worked all night on a drawing of a character design I've had stored away in my sketchbook. She doesn't have a name yet or a comic that she belongs to, so she's one of my many homeless OCs. She was originally designed with my comic, Saint Goblin, in mind. However, as you can see, her design is too cute not to have a story of her own!
Now, I'm no nib expert but the blue pen with the XF nib felt like it laid down more ink, so it was my choice for outlining the piece and filling in black areas. The detail work, such as the cross-hatching, hair, and embroidery, was done mostly with the green pen with the EF nib. This nib felt finer than the XF nib.
