Thanks for the recording, Ichigo. And yeah, it's a bit of a shame that "State of the Industry" turned into "downloads are killing us!". Personally, I'm really surprised that no one from FUNimation was on with this panel, especially considering how much FUNi was everywhere else at Sakura-Con.
I still think downloads are definitely an issue that need to be remedied . . . but yeahhh, I've definitely heard more captivating arguments before (like Nabeshin's!).
Wow, that music was a lot more distracting than I expected. Gackt...too...loud...
I didn't know I could dislike a panelist as much as I disliked that Lilian person. She quite obviously is more interested in getting up on her soap box than listening to opposing arguments and making a so-called 'informed decision'.
My quiet little take on the argument is that if it was up to my purchasing every series before I could watch it, I'd end up seeing very little anime. It's too expensive to go that route. Renting and using Netflix I do, and I see that as just fine. It's affordable. I purchase boxed sets, if I have the money and only after I've seen the series before, probably fansubbed. I can buy a movie that comes out without any qualms because I know I'm making a $20-25 commitment. Purchasing an entire anime series though, is a completely different issue. And if their target audience is often early to mid-teens, how exactly do they expect kids to convince their parents to spend $29 per disc, and buy seven of them to complete a series? It's pretty ridiculous.
I know the industry is trying, and it's terrible that ADV is supposedly having some pretty serious issues. So, I hope things can be worked out in a reasonable manner, sooner rather than later, so that the number of American dubbing studios can increase in number and hopefully improve in overall quality, as opposed to dwindling and losing talent.
Thanks for the recording.
