OC Analysis: Characters Who Just Can't Get Along

Katsushiro & Daisuke (Eternal Rain universe)
Katsushiro and Daisuke met when Katsushiro was staying with his aunt in Llania, but Shūichi is the glue that keeps them together. They’re polar opposites, with Katsushiro being careful and serious and Daisuke being a lighthearted goofball. Katsushiro’s often dreary mood depresses Daisuke, who can’t stand it when things get too heavy, so Daisuke plays friendly pranks on Katsushiro to get him to lighten up – much to Katsushiro’s chagrin. They come together to support Shūichi and Reka, offering practical help along with a laugh in tough situations.

Hikaru & Ariana (Dreamer)
When streetwise orphan meets adventure-seeking quick-talker, tensions are high. Ari’s very dodgy initially, having made a hobby of guiding passersby through her dusty old town for a quick buck. Hikaru is immediately distrustful of her, particularly when she shows a peculiar interest in Haru, who’s been the subject of many a rumor floating around town. As it turns out, Hikaru is right to be suspicious. Ari and her brother, Rio, are linked to the shadowy organization that is after Haru; but her family also has something important in their possession that could very well save Haru’s life. Additionally, where Hikaru fails to convince Haru to take measures to stand up for himself instead of always running away from the organization, Ari succeeds. So, in that way, her nosiness and forcefulness work out for the better.

Joel & Hikari (Search for the Sky)
Joel initially sees Hikari as a harmless (but irritating) airhead until he learns what he is – one of the Gifted, people with special abilities – and sees his power firsthand. Irritation turns into distrust as Hikari seems to be lying to and hiding things from him. In reality, Hikari simply doesn’t know much about himself. His memory is fragmented, and he suffers from what appear to be sudden and severe mood swings which mostly display as angry outbursts. Understandably, this causes a lot of confusion, fear and frustration on Joel’s part, which leads Hikari to react with distrust in return. What brings them together? Joel’s younger sister, Michi. She and Hikari get attached to each other, and Hikari protects her. When Joel sees this, he softens toward Hikari, and soon they are protecting each other.

Shay & Ellis (Pet Projects)
Shay and Ellis were sibling disciples training under Jackson, one of the Mountain Lions’ lieutenants. During that time, hot-tempered Ellis envied Shay’s natural fighting strength but was also frustrated by her lack of feeling to the point where he called her a robot. Shay’s only goal was to be of use to the gang, and she numbed her feelings in order to fight. After Tristan came along, Ellis watched Shay change and, even if they didn’t always see eye-to-eye, he respected her. Shay also grew to respect Ellis for the way he fought to protect the others in the gang. Though Shay had to flee the Mountain Lions with Tristan, and Ellis is now the leader of the potentially rival gang, she still has high regard for him. Ellis, on the other hand, sort of resents her for leaving.
