UnVale Review + Mini-Update

Hey, guys! :D

I took some time off work this week, so I am working on challenge prizes!! Hoping to have at least the first one done and maybe will get to sketch the second.

As you may know, I've been poking around UnVale, a site specifically for original characters, since fall. (I can't believe it's been over six months already. 0_0) I'm going to break down some of the pros and cons of it in case this is something any of you would be interested in checking out.

First, let me explain how it's set up: It's character-centric, so you submit your character, and then you can add at-a-glance info, specific traits, art and writing to the profile. You can also create worlds to organize OCs by universe/story/RP etc., but the bulk of the organization happens under the OC's profile.

Pros:

  • Easy way to keep all your OC's info in one spot.
  • Great for references/design sheets!
  • I LOVE the Question of the Day feature! It's great for inspiration when you're developing characters.
  • Because the site is still new and somewhat small, admins are very accessible/responsive.

Cons:

  • Because it's so heavily character-centric, it's harder to browse/find things that are more categorized under story info/worldbuilding. It's also harder to organize multiple-character references like height comparison charts.
  • Tagging system is confusing.
  • Not easy to interlink or use formatting outside of the Writing tab. (The latter is a small inconvenience, but I wanted to include character relationships, so the lack of an easy linking method is a bigger issue for me personally.)
  • Comment system is hard to figure out, specifically for replying.

As a central place to store character info and references, as well as a character development tool, this is overall a good site. Let me know if you have recommendations for others.

Hope you're doing well! ^-^
