Thankyou so much for reading this, Zuzu-chan!! ^_^ I was really having trouble with ref pics myself, cuz I don't have any problem with them but they started creating problems for me when I over used them! Like that guy who used your artwork and redrew all the detail, I would do that with a ref pic but never really use my own style or anything! So now I've fixed that^^ Ref pics really are awesome though, I agree! I did used to think it was cheating and then I thought it would be cheating to use a ref pic but turn it into an OC but I definitely DO NOT think that now!! Its really helpful to use pics for such things :DDD
Keep up the great work, my friend ninja!!
not bad my friends. I mean this is something most people don't realize. I know a guy who uses my artwork but he tried to use all the details of my O.C so I said it straight to him dude you can use artworks online just dedicate it to those and say that was your reference if your going to use my stuff you better say you used my stuff using a reference is not a cheat it actually as you said a perfect model. They give us great poses or clothe designs. At least that what they give me. Nice job friend. this is something useful to know
Lol you made sense, I understand^^ I agree too :) I'm just havin an issue with drawing without ref pics now xD I'm trying to use them sparingly or challenge myself in different ways so I can develop a style instead of looking at someone else's style!
Thankyou so much for reading! <3
You're right! I think they're very fun as well and super handy for a lot of artwork including fan art^^ I'm trying to wean myself off them though xD just a bit so that I can at least feel more confident without one... Its actually hard! You don't seem to have a problem though^^ You draw really good fan art and then create some great comics too :D
You've got it exactly right^^ Lolz its hard for me too xD Seems that only now I'm starting to pull away from being dependant... It really feel awkward when doing a manga and feeling a bit nervous about drawing poses xD OH i forgot to mention that using a mirror or self images can help as well! that helps a lot and it feels more original too xD I always like those manga poses though!
Thankyou for reading :DDDD
Exactly! I've actually heard that at teachers sometimes don't allow ref pics O_o I think they help a lot!!! At least, they really help get us to be confident with what we want to draw^^
Thats cool too! I should do more of it, I'm just so nervous about 'comparison' between art and ref pics. But Satina-chan just pointed out that it brings out the uniqueness of style as well :D So good idea!
Thankyou fo reading^^
I'm glad! It was a bit opinionated so I'm happy that it's been helpful^^ I think ref pics are so awesome, but I've been stumbling because of them as well. It was just so hard to explain my thoughts so I'm glad it was interesting and not confusing for you!
Thankyou so much for reading :)
I totally agree! ^_^ Lolz I think I got lost on my opinion and you've summed it up really well! Its too bad that reference pics are looked at as 'copying' sometimes when it isn't! BUt then again, I've realized they can hurt if depended on too much. But I think they're one of my best friends in art^^
AH THANKYOU! Ugh I'm so self-critical sometimes... I just wanna do my best^^' Thankyou so much for the lovely comment, my dear! <3

I totally love using reference pics :D After all, unless they're your characters or you've got an amazing photographic memory, how else are you going to remember all the little details on a character?
So basically you're saying we should be balanced in our use of reference pics right? Too much can cramp our style but not using any can limit our learning/practice. . . I hate being balanced XD
All the info about reference pictures that I need to know in one post, Nice! Cool examples, maybe next time when I post something up, I'll also put some links of the reference pics I used. I think I heard from somebody that the way you learn to do art is that you copy from others. Which makes sense because how else are you gonna draw something if you don't know what it looks like :)
yeah i understand what you are trying to say..i feel guilty of using reference pics and so i draw my own character but its not a crime to use reference..we learn by seeing things not imagining them
besides not all are born geniuses
hey i think your art is good no awesome!! even though it doesnt look exactly as your reference image it shows your own style and thats' good..when you have your own style epople will admire you for that!!
And dont say that placing your art and ref pic side by side degrades your art..like i said previously it shows your own style of art! be proud you have one!!
yeah i agree ref pic do help us improve..i learnt so many things using ref pics ^-^
