Thankyou SO much!! Ah awesome, I hope you post your comic here after you're done :D You can look up screentones on google images and there's a lot of choice there, mostly from DA^^
Lol I still need to find out about that, I'm going to ask her again!
Ah good idea... I have this little book in which I'm doing a lot of sketches and planning for the manga. BUT I just hit this block and my ideas scattered everywhere =_= It might be good though since I was trying to stuff all my ideas into one short story and it was messing me up! SO now I have a little one-shot, I mean like one chapter at the max, and its about Yoshi and Ayako but he's not a mind-reader anymore.. and I feel bad for taking away his gift xD hahaha But it can't be helped, I just hope I don't disappoint anyone. It'll work better this way!!
I saw your new short comic and loved it!!! I was so excited while reading about Lux and those chicks haha!
ahahaha!!! You're making me interested in knowing what your other sister says! XD
You know I should consider that too, making a couple of draft of the first few pages before starting. I never really done that before. @_@
We'll see about the short comics, XD I hope I can! ^^
Lol she is!! But sometimes she threatens to turn me over to my other sister, which really is bad xD My other sister comes up with hilarious ideas, she just doesn't think they are hilarious xD We were laughing over one recently and I couldn't believe she actually wanted me to use it in my story... I wish I could remember what idea it was! xD It was so funny!
Yeah I agree.. I'm having trouble with the first pages. I maybe should just doodle a few setups and see if anything happens?
YAY!!!! I'm excited to hear that, cuz u are an awesome comic creator!
EEEEEE SO EXCITING!! I'm looking forward to hearing them <3
lol I bet she's really happy she gets to be the editor!!!! XD I'm glad she is able to give you plenty of ideas too!
I'm not sure, it's just hard to come up with a begining unless you put a lot of thought to it?
I miss doing the little comics, I had fallen into a bad block which why I didn't continue, but I might start them up again. XD
I'm still writing the stories but I will be sure to share with you! XD
Thats right!! I let her help me out and KK has already given me some good ideas that helped me out of little problems and holes in my story^^ I'll definitely do that :)
AH yes =_= Its good to know that I'm not the only one who has trouble with beginnings xD and I'm also trying to find out a good title ad cover, but that might have to wait until I start actually working on the manga!
Thankyou ^_^
Ahahahahaha you keep me so curious xD I would love to see those short stories, its been a while since you posted up any comics, I miss them!!
ah you should let her be the editor! I think it will help to have someone you know edit your stuff live too, I let my sister check my stuff before going on to the next part. ^u^
lol for me I always know how I would like my middle and ending be, but it's the beginning that kills me! XD
I'm sure that you'll be doing a good job on them!
I do have some ideas for some short stories right now, but I'm still writing them and thinking about the length I want them to be! XD
I'm tempting to share them with you, but not yet, maybe when I'm done writing! :)
Lol! Today KK said she would be my editor, and when I disagreed with her, she got all huffy with me! O_O haha! Thats good to know!! I'm SO close to starting, but I want to get more of an idea of how the middle and ending are going to go, so thats what I'm working on now. I also want to make a cover and title!
Thankyou! ^_^
Yay!!! I will!!! You too, u can Pm me anytime if you need opinions or advice :) and don't worry about emailing me! I've been so lazy to email >3< I need to email you back too! and I will^^
XD that's funny! XD I hope you listen to KK and get started on your manga! XD Oh yes beginnings are hard to start! I have also had the most difficult time with those, but once you get past those, then it gets a little easier going to the middle! XD
See, the plots will be common, but as long as the stories have some differences it should all be fine!
Awesome! I will try my best to help you just come ask me! I will also try and get to you pm soon! I have a couple of days off for thanksgiving, so I will try and reply! @_@
Thats right!! I think if I can get started on this, then it'll be easier to work on it after that^^ My sister KK is really trying to get me to start writing. I'm nervous about the beginning but KK says I just have to start xD so thats true!
OH I know right? It gets really discouraging to see a similar idea actually in a manga. I feel like I'll get sucked in and not be able to think of my own ideas since its already used and has more better ideas. BUT I just found a one-shot that practically 'copies' the same idea of Kimi ni todoke, but its different too! So that made me feel better as well :D
Exactly!! Lo you are making me so excited to work on my ideas again :)
Thankyou! I'll do those! They'll help my characters+ideas for sure!
HAHA! Don't worry, I love your advice and you didn't sound rude^^
Thankyou SO much!! I'll be keeping in contact with you about how the manga is going, and I hope you'll work on some of your manga ideas too! :D
don't worry about it! I just think you need a little push get yourself started! XD
I do get about getting discouraged though. I recently found this one manga that has a similar plot to an old idea I had that involved a demon grating wishes. though I never started that story, I was surprised to see the manga recently.
I did have the idea about 4 years ago though. XD
But yes, even if your stories have a similar plot, there are differences, and those differences are what sets them apart!
and yes, drawing little random comics should really help you! I think the random doodling help you a lot too, so this should be the same! XD
oh that's good that I didn't sound rude, after reading my comment I felt rude. @_@
but anywho yeah, it's about having fun telling the story, so stressing won't help.
I think that you'll do a good job once you get started on your project! You'll also have some friends here reading it and encouraging you or helping you!
Thankyou so much for taking the time to help e out with this, Toya!! I feel a lot better! Its funny, cuz last time I had this issue, it was with a different manga but my same idea =_= So it just keeps stumping me, but now I'll be able to overcome it with such awesome advice that u and the others gave me! AHA I won't chicken out now! ^^
Thats true... I realized that all those shoujo cliches seem different depending on the characters actions too! I just thinkn my characters aren't strong enough yet.. so you're right, little comic skits to experiment will help!
ooo thankyou so much! I'll do that!
I'll follow your advice :) I might try to start the manga soon, but I'm going to be doodling and making mini comics behind the scenes too xD And I want to try to bring out characteristics that make my characters different even if they do seem similar to other characters right now.
LOL you don't sound rude at all!! This is just what I needed to hear!! I do get stressed sometimes so I really need to remember to have fun! I'm really thankful for your advice, Toya!!! :D I feel really confident right now! ^3^

well Manga, I just got done reading this, and I'm going to tell you not to chicken out!
You already been planning this story for a while and I don't think that you should get discouraged about it cause you have to remember that even though your story might have a similarity to another story, there are differences.
There will also be more stories out there with similar plots, but I think it's all about making it your own by adding some of your own personal experiences to it. I think that will make your idea more unique.
I read the comments below and I think that they are great advice and that you should follow them!
also experiment with your characters more too, and I think you will be able to build them up more.
I also encourage you to make random one page silly comics! they can really help you out too! just like the doodling!
I do some of those gag comics, but I'm always to lazy to ink, but they do help build my story. XD
and also remember the most important thing!!! HAVE FUN WITH IT!!! Don't stress yourself to the point that you're not having fun!
I hope I'm not sounding rude or anything! @_@ and I hope I was some what helpful!
Thanks again^^ Oh I just remembered that last time I got stumped with this idea, it was cuz I had been reading Say I Love You which had similar plot lines too :/ But yes, now I feel a lot better and I don't feel like I'll be blocked again over this^^
Oh exactly!! U should check out the comments below from Fykki, Sushi, and Stormy if u need help too! I just hate that when I get a 'good' idea, it ends up being similar to another manga... and then suddenly I realize maybe a lot more ties in and then it looks like I copied. And if I am copying, I don't even mean to do it so I just get discouraged =_=
AH but thats true, and you just reminded me of my own dreams!!! I totally forgot I could use those too :D That would work great! I hear the some people say experiences are good to work off of, but I don't have many experiences with people :/ Dreams will work tho! I'll be more observant for original ideas around me too!
Oooo Bonnie! I must encourage u to draw ur manga ideas too!! We should both do a one shot, I'll be working on this one for a bit but it shouldn't be really long... Maybe thats all we need, a little practice to get us going! At least u have stories, and as far as I heard, they are very awesome and original <3
Thankyou so much! I'll do my best, I feel like I have more control now then when I first wrote my post :) Thankyou so much again, so true!! I appreciate ALL ur advice, and I'll get to work asap now^^
love u!
Oh I know right? Sushi and Stormy really helped me out so far, and now you too!!!! Thankyou SO much, Fykki!!!
AH great advice!! Thanks, my friend! I agree... Sometimes I just get caught up in the fact that I love certain manga SO much that I wish I had been able to draw/write like that. And then when I finally try writing a story, I'm paranoid that I'll start working too similar to my favourite manga. I want people to enjoy my story and not think its a copy =_= SO your comment has set me straight and made me excited to work on my own ideas again without fear of taking another idea! If I think something is too similar, I'll just try to work with it a different way and add my own style to it^^
Thankyou SO much again!! I'm all powered up to do my best on this manga now, I wanna make my friends proud :) Right, that makes sense! I find that if I go around and look at lots of manga, I get inspired to see how they were made!
Ah thats true and I agree^^ Man, you made me feel a lot better!!! I'll go ahead now, not as feeling guilty and afraid to copy, but being sure to stay with my own style and ideas too.
Thankyou and God bless u, I'm ready to do my best again *thumbs up*
LOL I appreciate the long comment!! I thankyou for spending ur time here to help me, I'll never forget cuz its really made me change! :D
Lol I just read Stormy's advice, and I agree!! That really helped me a lot already and your advice is just as helpful!!
Ah I never even thought about brainstorming like that! Awesome suggestion, Sushi! I'm feeling a lot stronger now, knowing that I can change my story around if I need to and just make it my own. For some reason, I just start getting discouraged if I see that I'm working along the lines of another manga story =_= especially if its on that I'm currently reading. So what I'll do is take ur advice, and just try and make it as unique as I can using my brainstorming words/ideas :D
That is really interesting and I think it'll work super for me!! Thankyou SO much, my friend! I really appreciate ur advice and the time u spent helping me here <3
You definitely have helped me! My perspective is changing for the better again :) I feel less stressed over my story now, I'll do my best!! ^_^
YEAH!!! 8D This is the perfect advice!! Thankyou so much, Stormy!! I'm all pumped now.. I really appreciate the time u took to help me out here! What you said is so true, I understand now^^
Agreed! I'm sure that Yoshi is different in his male lead cuz he reads minds and he also isn't as friendly on the outside as, let's say, Kimi ni Todoke's main guy. I'm just hoping I don't begin falling into cliches or copying without knowing Dx but MAN that makes so much sense and its going to help me out a ton! I see... thats one thing I haven't done before. I always get chicken if I think I'm copying or being too influenced by a certain manga, when really all I have to do is change things and go forward in writing it like u said!
Awesome!! Ok that'll work too.. I don't mind using some cliches/tropes, but now I'll have the way to make them more unique^^ You've just shown me the light, Stormy! :D
I know just what you mean, and I really appreciate your advice cuz I was beginning to get blocked in my mind again instead of trying to experiment. I'm gonna do my best and try to make a great manga :D Thankyou for steering me in the right direction here!!! *hugs* I owe ya!
>____< I know what you mean! I always have issues when thinking about story lines. Most of them, are based on dreams, or something that someone mentioned makes me think of a plotline. Haha, it's so weird how I get them. I probably have about seven ideas I want to do, but not motivation to draw them XD But don't worry, you'll find a way to make your manga unique. And though many mangas have elements that are similar, there is always something that makes it 'special' to the readers. ;D Do your best Jen and it'll come out amazing!
Take cares~~
You already got two great comments, so I am going to be short and hit straight to the point!
Just go with what your heart and hand holding pencil tell you. Everything is from you, not from anyone else. Ideas are born, but they all grow slowly from each other. Do we always have to make more changes? Of course not! We like them how they are, so go with your own and don't worry about copying. Copying is a harsh and strong words and only used when someone really wants to use one style, but to hide it and make it different. You are not doing it, you just are following your own.
So go there and do your thing and don't forget that everything is up to you. :)
~ I wish you all the best and I am sure that you will make a great manga. Experience is also good and when you want to see different styles just find different kinds of manga. Research and learn from them, from mangakas, from their style, art and how they developed.
Also when I mentioned "research" that also means like seeing other ideas, but people learn from each other, only that you can always upgrade something that people already like.
I am sure that you will do just fine, we believe in you! ^_^
Edit: Short comment, but it turned out to be long. XD

I was going to say something but Citrus essentially beat me to the punch (that, and not only do we live in the same house, but he also took a short story writing class). So yeah, he gave some great advice.
If you're stumped for ideas, though, you can do a brainstorming session and just write down anything and everything that comes to mind (on paper, on computer, doesn't matter... whatever works for you), and look through it to see if there's anything you can use. Maybe the word "lightning" you wrote down could be a fascination for one character or "ketchup" could be an allergy or phobia for another (really, afraid of ketchup? It's possible, I'd think). Yeah, just a suggestion.
You could also write a bunch of stuff down on slips of paper and randomly draw them out of a hat or something. You decide the theme, draw a slip, and apply it (like this: "Yoshi's pet peeve" *draws slip of paper* "Oh, it's 'enchiladas'." And then you could think that it's because his family makes them so often because they've got a love for Mexican food. I don't know. Something like that.) I don't know if I've been any help or not ^_^U
Nothing wrong with similar plots/themes. You just have to make the elements unique!
Characters are the first place you should start when it comes to new series. If you think your characters are too similar to those from other series and you are paranoid about it, change things up! Make a shy girl with an addiction to spicy foods and a love of the feeling of sand in her shoes, or an architect with a fear of birds and a desire to build a building that will grab the attention of the girl he loves! Something like that. Once you have some awesome characters, placing them in different scenarios and seeing how they react will make the rest of your manga fall into place.
In the case of "I've started but this seems too similar," there's nothing wrong with accepting a trope that's used in many different series. Sometimes you can lampshade it (call attention to the fact that it's overused and prevalent) to make it applicable to a scene. But if it really bothers you, then you can use my method when that problem happens to me: I change one minor element of the scene at a time until I think it's either completely different or until it's varying enough for me to be comfortable. Like I said, nothing wrong with pulling from tropes.
There's a video I saw once called "Every Anime Opening Ever" that sums up the idea of anime tropes. It's a mash-up of all the major opening theme song cliches. Regardless of how many times they're used, though, people still love them and still use them. It just goes to show that a lot of people can use the same ideas and still make them work. They don't all have to be different; just individual. That doesn't make sense Point is, don't be afraid to experiment with shaking up formulas, but there's always a place for a shy girl and the guy who pulls her out of her shell.

Ah thats true and I agree^^ Man, you made me feel a lot better!!! I'll go ahead now, not as feeling guilty and afraid to copy, but being sure to stay with my own style and ideas too.
Thankyou and God bless u, I'm ready to do my best again *thumbs up*

@CelestialSushi:

That doesn't make sensePoint is, don't be afraid to experiment with shaking up formulas, but there's always a place for a shy girl and the guy who pulls her out of her shell.Last edited by CitrusStorm at 12:54:17 PM EST on November 12, 2012.
