I know this is a bit late, but I'm just gonna say, my brother has a wacom intuous 5, and it's really good. I don't know a lot about it, but it's supposedly a really good one.
I have a Bamboo One. It is a lot cheaper than some of the other Bamboo products (about £25), so I am sure it isn't as fancy... But it works just fine for me ^^
I've got a Bamboo pen. It comes with one stylus, two or three replacement nibs, Bamboo Dock, Bamboo apps, and a copy of Corel Painter Essentials 4.0. It's a pretty nice pen tablet, and the apps include a sketchbook and more available for download to your computer. You can even get Bamboo paper, which will allow you to write notes in notebooks, sketchbooks, or whatever you want to use it for--all in your own handwriting. The only downside is that if your computer has any processing issues (like freezing up on occasion), it can cause Painter Essentials and some of the apps to freeze up and possibly crash. The pen tablet and stylus can be plugged into any PC or Mac and will function just like a mouse, meaning you don't need the software to be able to use them.
I have an Intuos4 small and I love it to death~ LOL! xD I was at first going to get a bigger one, but I'm glad I got a small one cuz then I can just plop it in with my laptop cover and bring it to go~
I would look at the Wacom Intuos4 small or medium (you might be able to get the medium for $250 and it's got more space to work with). But I would also compare prices for Intuos4 and the new Intuos5. I have an Intuos4 and I love it.

I have a Bamboo splash and I find it really good! I would recommend that one to you unless you want to get a different one. XD
I haven't really used any other types of tablets so I wouldn't really know much of the differences Between them. @_@
I just bought myself a Bamboo Connect not to long ago. I still haven't adjusted to it yet. The good thing is that it came with a tutorial that I found very helpful. I don't know if they all do that.
I bought this one at Staples. I had a really good coupon, so it only cost me, like, $75 (including tax). After I bought it, I didn't know that there were so many different varieties. I just bought the Connect because it was the cheaper of the two models that Staples carried in-store. And it didn't come with a version of Photoshop Elements like the other one did. Since I have the full version of Photoshop already, why pay more?
Call it karma. Call it luck. Me, I just don't give a... BOUNCE!
