Great advice!! I forgot to mention they were eighth graders at the time and so was I. I was kinda considered a nerd, so............hehehe, like they'd listen to me anyways.
I think you were right in being serious at the moment. As they say, there's a place and time for goofing off, and that didn't seem like the right time OR place.
Again, these seem like school-aged kids. And, well, they like to goof off (ah, the simple days) and by asserting yourself and telling them off, they probably thought you were being too serious. This also means they don't see you as an authority figure or respect you at all. To them, you were just ruining their fun. But, it was in good taste.
At the same time, these kids sound like they're your friends. Friends usually listen to each other and respect one another, from what I've learned. I'm sure that even though they thought you were being "too serious" they respected you for it. After all, it was for a contest, yes? They wanna win, yes? Even if it was just to skip class and goof off, there's a level of responsibility that goes with these events.
So, they were in the wrong and you were in the right for telling them off for their behavior. Wouldn't you rather be told you're too serious, than see them all end up in detention?
I think you did the proper thing. Standing up to your friends is hard and you were only looking out for them. I'm sure, in time, they'll come to see your good intentions.
The aunt didn't hit the child, the girl did. ^_^; but thanks, that's good advice. *squeezes your cheeks* I've always wanted to do that!!!! Another question, I got told off because I was too serious, well at least that was what that girl thought. I mean, we were decorating the halls for a contest we were doing, and it was in our math class. Now, I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't a contest we were doing it for, but alas, it was a contest, and we were going to get a prize for it. So, she and the other friends were making the halls look like crap, and I kinda told them off, too. They said I was too serious. I may take things a little bit serious sometimes, but i was right in being serious at the moment. Your opinion, Angelo-san? ^^
Lol, sure, you can squeeze my cheeks! I mean, the ones up here *points to face* XD
To answer your question tho:
No, you weren't wrong in telling her she isn't mentally challenged and that she shouldn't be offended. You were trying to be polite and stand up for her. That's honorable in itself.
However, she did hurt a young child for a rather blatant reason. Most kindergarten aged kids don't know right from wrong very well. I had a friend who once pointed at a woman in the super market and asked, "When is the baby due?" Turns out, the woman was just porky. XD Kids don't have the ability to think ahead of their actions. So, the child probably didn't think it would hurt your friends' aunt. She probably thought she was just stating a fact.
In retrospect, no one is to blame for anything that went on here. It was just a series of sequences that made some people look bad. The aunt in question did have a right to hit the kid, no offense. But, she could've handled it better too. It's more effective for you tell a child off with words instead of fists. They listen better than they feel, I guess.
So, don't feel ashamed. It's not your fault and this seems like it will be worked out among the people involved.
Good job tho, trying to cheer her up. I would've told her off, to be honest. ^^"
Sankyu for the question! ^o^
I hope things turn out well for them! (>_0)b
Okay, I was going to ask if I could squeeze your cheeks, but, I have a feeling you won't answer that kind of question. ^_^;
I had this "friend" who's aunt was mentally challenged. Now, she beat up a little kindergartner for calling her retarded. I talked to her, and she said it offended her to be called retarded. She got mad at me because I said that she shouldn't be offended because she's not mentally challenged. So, was I wrong in telling her this?
You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I know that you're not Dr. Phil. Although you may be really close to being so...........
