I can't comment on too many of your specific questions but just keep one thing in mind about the Surface RT (though it seems you may already know given that you mentioned the Pro as well) - you can't run native Windows programs on it; it only supports apps from the Windows App Store. The Pro runs a full version of Windows 8 which would let you install other programs as usual but you can't do that on the RT.
I wish I could be more helpful in regards to your other points but I haven't used either of them beyond a few minutes with a demo unit and I'm not an artist so I can't offer any useful advice there.
