About

Derbyshire (Pronounced Dah-bee-shurr to us locals and DAR-bi-sheer to the rest. ;) ) is a county in the United Kingdom. A county is very much like an American state and Derbyshire stretches for 1,014 square miles (That's 2,625 km2) and contains 9 districts (High Peak, Derbyshire Dales, South Derbyshire, Erewash, Amber Valley (Where I live), North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield, Bolsover and Derby (Unitary).) with a population of 1,001,500. (As of 2008.)

Some of Derbyshire acually lies within the Peak District National Park, some in the Pennines, borders on Nottinghamshire (The wrong side o' brook. ;) ), Cheshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, the national forest and Greater Manchester.
