Hemm....Not sure what anime/mangas you know...Like may be a academy (Naruto)? They get assigned to a teacher, go to the chunin exams, preliminaries (may be >_<") then the final stage and depending on the person they can pass or fail XD
Then you could make up random missions for the "team" to go on....IDK XD fast idea...

You like fruit baskets (duh XD I saw your world) May be something like that? They would be a zodiac animal or a student....
Or you could base it off a book you like.....
Well anywho other animes I like(incase we have something in common...Gosh o_o' I don't know what ones you like...>_>") Naruto, Bleach, Wolf Rain, One Piece, Vampire Knight, Fruits Basket, and FMA(but I don't know much about it XD)
