imma go full fangirl for a sec

I just found this and I can't contain myself!

So yearsss ago when the first live-action NANA movie was released in Japan, Hyde of L'Arc~en~ciel composed a song for it called GLAMOROUS SKY. And last week, JYJ had a series of concerts in Tokyo for the first time in three years and one of Jaejoong's solo songs was GLAMOROUS SKY! Which is only sweetened by the fact that Hyde himself (and Gackt and a million other Japanese celebrities) were in attendance! All my Asian music fandoms are literally converging into one! *dies*

I've always liked this song, but I just LOVE Jaejoong's cover! And it's such a pleasant surprise, especially considering that Jaejoong is a Korean singer with an R&B background and this is a J-Rock song. And it's also AMAZING to finally hear JYJ perform in Japanese again for the first time in literally years.

Also, I just realized that I've been a fan of DBSK/JYJ for six years now. Like, WHAT. Where did all that time go?? I don't talk about them nearly as often, but I still have a lot of feels for DBSK ok. ;_;

the anime I'm picking up this season

Leftover from last season
Chihayafuru 2

Obligatory Fujoshi Series
Uta no Prince-sama Season 2 (I still can't believe this show is real)
Karneval

We'll see whether I continue watching this
Aku no Hana (I don't what this show is about nor where it's headed)

Everything Else
Shingeki no Kyojin
Suisei no Gargantia

Regarding the last two, I just watched the first ep of Shingeki no Kyojin and I LOVED it! I really hope all following episodes are at least as good as that first one was. Would recommend to fellow fans of seinen fantasy/sci-fi. Also, it might be the artwork or the designs of the Titans, but something about this series really reminds me of Gantz (minus all the pornography).

And Suisei no Gargantia hasn't premiered yet. I'm looking forward to it, even though I get the feeling that Urobutcher pulled this script from out of his ass. Also, Gargantia is supposed to be a "light-hearted slice-of-life show" so... we'll see how that goes.

EDIT: btw here's a subtitled promo of Shingeki no Kyoujin. I'm so excited!

Just saw Evil Dead

And I enjoyed it more than I thought I would! I actually found it scary at parts, certainly more so than the average horror movie. Though the only horror movies I've seen in theatres recently were Mama, Sinister, and a yet-to-be-released movie with the working title The Conjuring, and out of all those, Evil Dead is definitely the most entertaining. Though don't watch it if you can't stomach gore because MAN. I feel like my desensitization to violence definitely jumped up a notch after watching this movie.

And on that note, RIP to Roger Ebert. This "celebrity death" affects me more than most others because, as silly as this probably sounds, I imagine that one of his fleeting thoughts before dying was knowing that he would not be able to see upcoming movies that he was looking forward to. And that's actually something I've thought about before. I don't know, as a fellow movie enthusiast I guess I just find that way too relatable. :(

a damn good quote

"At any rate, comparing oneself to others is a fruitless exercise. You will always end up comparing what the public thinks of the other with what you know of yourself."

Currently reading The Twelve Kingdoms: The Shore in Twilight. Will probably make a compilation of quotes once I'm done reading Book One, since the Twelve Kingdoms books are filled with wonderful little aphorisms.

I also recommend the anime, if anyone out there has yet to watch it. :D :D

on performing extroversion

So I mentioned a few weeks back that I got a job and that this job requires me to get out of my comfort zone. To go into a bit more detail, it's specifically a street canvassing job. It basically forces me to stand on the busy downtown streets of Chicago, stop people, pitch to them, and convince them to sign up to sponsor a child on the spot. Our canvassers are a little different from most others (e.g. Greenpeace, HRC, etc) in that we tend to be more outrageous and we basically get people to stop by saying crazy shit to them. (e.g. Whenever I see Asians, I say, "I'm Asian, you're Asian, let's be friends!" And there's one guy who pretends to fall in front of people and when they help him up, he says, "By the way, have you heard of our charity?" city people lmao)

So I was talking to an incredibly friendly German tourist earlier today who really took an interest in what we were doing and he asked:

Him: Is this job hard?
Me: How difficult it is depends on what type of person you are. You have to be okay with most people ignoring you and the occasional rude response.
Him: Yeah, you would have to be a "people" person.
Me: It's not even that, really. I don't think of myself as a "people" person at all.
Him: Well, you certainly seem like one right now!

And I told him that the most important thing is just to tell yourself that you can do it. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would probably rate myself as a 7 in terms of shyness. Even now, this job is not really "changing me" in that regard. Outside of work, I'm pretty much as quiet as ever. But that doesn't limit me nor anyone else from performing extroversion when it's required of them. To be honest, I think shy people often tell themselves that they cannot do things that they actually can do. And part of the reason I took this job was in order to prove that shy, introverted people can do a job that requires a lot of social interaction just as well as more extroverted people. The most important thing is just to believe in yourself!
