Just wondering, is there anything stopping you from applying to both South Africa programs and deferring your final decision until later? I applied to two Japan programs (and was pretty torn about which one to pick). I got accepted to both, but by the time I heard back from them, I'd pretty much figured out which one I wanted.
It's mandatory for my major that I go abroad for a semester, though I really want to go for the whole year. It'd be really cool to study in two countries so different from each other and from America. :)
I think the SIT program scares me a little, haha. It's so intense. But I feel like I might not be able to do something like live in four different areas of South Africa ever again... but then again, I probably won't get the opportunity to study in a South African university ever again either! Gahh, I don't know. ._.;;
OMG OMG. It sounds like you have a lot ahead of you! Those courses/programs sound amazing. Wow. So you get to study abroad? Or do you HAVE to? That's so neat!! T__T But scary. I'd be frightened to go to another country on my own. O__o' But it would be some experience! *hugs* Hmm...but which would you rather do? China would be sweet...and South Africa is wow.
I guess it all depends on how different of a culture you're willing to enter, and also the courses that you would have to take. Which appeal to you most? :)
*hugs* But wow again, that's so cool! I hope you choose the best. ^^ Take care~ Happy thanksgiving.
Ah, I'm actually not choosing between China and South Africa, since I would probably be able to go to both countries. But I'm having trouble choosing which program to apply to for South Africa. Though from the sound of it, your cousin who went to South Africa probably did something more similar to the SIT program...
My cousin went to South Africa to do some school stuff for the kids down there, and she said it was amazing. Of course, there was bad stuff to look at too, such as the village burning and stuff, as well as overwhelming poverty, but it was still really cool. My other cousin lived in China for about 2 years, and her stories were considerably less entrancing. I'd go for South Africa, just because the culture change is like a 100 volt shock.

@Dagger IX1:
I'm not actually sure, haha. I don't think I need to choose one right now. But I'd like to have it all planned out early on. Just because. >_>;
