Yeah, I've calmed down about this issue since writing this post. xD
I've read a little of Paradise Kiss, but not enough to see how their relationship developed. It sounds like George is a lot more subtle in his manipulation... but still. I don't think I could really bring myself to like Shou, especially when Ren is a more stable option for Kyoko. Agree to disagree, I guess? ^^;
I actually like Shou. xD He's a comedic character. It's not like he's George from Paradise Kiss. You should really read that manga. Now THAT pisses me off. He physically, sexually, and emotionally abuses the main character. In the end, she marries her high school crush, who was nice/stable. People complained about the ending, saying George loved her. I didn't know that rape=love. If you've read Paradise Kiss, Shou becomes a likeable character. I'd rather be with an immature ass than a jerk ass.
I can understand that somewhat, since I tend to prefer bratty love interests to the overly-nice ones. The former is usually more entertaining. ^^;;
But Sho is just too much of a genuine jerk. If he had actually matured and acted on his feelings in a non-selfish way, I would like him a lot more. But he just hasn't "reformed" as much as everyone claims he has.

Nothing like a good, lulzy rant at 3 a.m.
I can't remember whether I told this story here, but this post reminds me of when I was in AP English Lit, and we watched the BBC Pride and Prejudice mini-series, and half the class d'awwwed at Darcy's initial confession to Elizabeth, while the other half reacted like, "Wait, WTF?? Did he just insult her??"

There will always be girls who love a guy no matter how much of a jerk he is. Just one of those bizarre facts of life.

@Shinmaru:
People with awkward sleeping schedules, unite!
I have yet to see that mini-series, even though I've heard so much about it. And yeah, Darcy could lack tact. >_>;
