    Yeah, it was one of his more darker films, coming close to equaling Requiem for a Dream. Ugh, some scenes looked so painful.

    Having just commented on your site, yeah, I can see some Perfect Blue in there. I think the comparison with The Wrestler is appropriate in the sense that both are deep and sustained character studies, where the character trying to attain something perhaps beyond herself (in the case of Black Swan, especially). All in all, great film!

    @Pleiades Rising:

    Honestly, Black Swan is more comparable to Perfect Blue than The Wrestler. Not that there aren't some similarities to the latter, but they're ultimately about different things. There's a lot of Perfect Blue in Black Swan, though.

    It is terrifying. Seriously, ever since seeing that movie, I've been a little scared whenever I'm alone in my house once it gets dark. (Which is almost every night.) o-o

    It's completely different from The Wrestler in that it has way more of a horror edge to it. (And more sexual scenes too.) But I really, really enjoyed it, even though I felt anxious throughout almost the entire movie, haha.

    MLK brings to mind what the sociologist Max Weber called "charismatic leadership", but the devotion needed to sustain such a concept was severely tested, as you pointed out. How he managed to persevere through such an era is something I find so compelling.

    Buy the way, how was The Black Swan? I'm a big fan of Darren Aronofsky's films, so I'm very interested in seeing it.

    I heard the sequel novels are unbelievably depressing, so I'm not sure I want to see them animated lol

    @SomeGuy:

    Actually, the visa process for South Africa really is harder than for China. Though I think that might be because my study abroad program handled the paperwork that needed to be approved by the Chinese government (which is "the hard part" I guess). And the medical examination stuff is a lot more intense. :(

    Yay, you saw Tangled!

    I'm kinda shocked that it's apparently been harder to get into South Africa than it was to get into China. I guess it's more that you were in China when you were applying to get into South Africa, but still. Wow. Also, I had no idea you were going to do this much globe-trotting. That's really awesome.

    As for the Commies . . . . . Iiiiiiiiidunno.

    My problem with the ending wasn't so much that it was anti-climactic, but more that there was no real epilogue. Why do so few anime series have proper epilogues??

    But there's two more novels to work with, so cross your fingers for a sequel? ^^

    Kemono no Souja Erin, nice. One of the best anime from 2009 for sure. Too bad the ending was kind of anticlimactic.
