Drinking is too expensive for me to do it beyond "getting a drink with my meal". >_> And I also need a degree of sweetness in my drink. I complained about a pina colada needing more sugar when I got one once.
Uh...yeah sorry I'm not really a help with what to do, especially in Chicago. Maybe try to divert them with a movie or something?

We are in complete synchronicity on this. I also don't find anything appealing in going out to a club full of people where its very likely loud, and I don't drink and never have. I have friends around here though who, when they get together, always drink, and it really bothers me. I can only be in their company a very short time until I have to excuse myself and go home.
Hopefully you can convince your friend to pursue other activities than going out to party.

Alcohol IS way too expensive! I hate having to pay $20 for a bottle of alcohol that's not even considered very good quality. It's insane. :(
And yeah lol, people often complain that the drinks I like are "too sweet," a phrase which has no meaning to me. ^^;
