If a movie can do something like that, imagine what concrete social unrest can trigger. Up here in Canada, there's this movement called Idle No More, which is mostly composed of First Nations, or various aboriginal groups (in the states, the name would be Native Americans). It centers around some key issues, the protection of land and resources being one of them. However, since it's largely composed of FN groups, it has attracted its own hateful idiots (who seem to be better at reacting to ideas than generating their own).
I follow it on Twitter, as well as keep up with media reports on it. The rhetoric flowing from those against the movement have been as appalling as those in that picture. I've seen some openly express opinions that belong in the 19th century, rather than today. It's been shameful, to say the least, showing that Canadians, too, tend to lapse into "extreme generalizations about an entire race of people." (The evidence supporting this is so overwhelming that often I find examples without even having to really look for them.)
Part of the reason for those kinds of comments is just plain ignorance. Some don't really know much beyond what some news report or pundit reports on, which is accepted more or less without question. (Not to mention the line being blurred between objective news reporting and biased op-ed pieces.) Even bloggers have gotten into the act, as in the case of Pamela Geller and her "activism" in stirring up an atmosphere of hate with her irresponsible NYC subway ads. In her case, though, she's largely preaching to the choir, but does perpetuate the conditions in which ignorance and hate grow. Of course, that's only one aspect to a complicated issue, but I do think it's a significant part of it (at least, today).
There's not enough critical thinking going on in the world anymore. People just want to let others do their thinking for them and not bother questioning where they're getting their information from.
Yes, this is it exactly! And honestly, both conservatives and liberals are guilty of this.
I always believe that we should question our own beliefs. So many people are quick to accept their beliefs as truths without really examining what those beliefs stem from, what factors shaped them, etc.

Even though I like Twitter a lot, it's NOT difficult to find garbage like this if you dig a bit into basically any popular talking point. It's so easy that I follow a couple of people who basically do nothing but shame these sorts of idiots, haha.

Its sad that people allow media depictions of other cultures to color their own opinions. There's not enough critical thinking going on in the world anymore. People just want to let others do their thinking for them and not bother questioning where they're getting their information from. And history shows us this is very dangerous. Its exactly how the Nazis took over Germany.
