I think it's much more reasonable for people to confuse Japanese and Korean, since those two languages do sound kind of similar. I think I just get annoyed because I know some people who are exposed to Asian languages but REALLY don't try to distinguish between them at all, and just say "it all sounds the same" because that's what everyone says.
Yeah, that running titan from the last episode still makes me lol, haha. Especially when it kicked that random guy who was walking down the road.
I'll never understand why people can say Chinese and Japanese sounds the same when they absolutely don't, like German and French indeed. People tend to forget that Asia is a continent, not a country, and, like in Europe, people look different and while some languages have the same roots, they still sound different. The world has still so many stereotypes about Asia, it's so annoying...
Anyway, thanks for the rant, I couldn't agree more.
It can be frustrating yeah. I know the difference between Japanese and Chinese. Chinese feels like German according to your analogy and Japanese like French. In my opinion, Japanese sounds very poetic and graceful while Chinese sounds harsh and abrupt. However I suppose I'm a little guilty of this myself. Granted I haven't studied the difference TOO much. I can't seem to understand the difference or really explain the difference between Korean and Japanese just by listening to a few seconds of it. Only way I can really tell is I know some Japanese and watched enough anime to recognize sayings or phrases of Japanese. Korean is just foreign to my ears. Besides that, I do know the writing system differences. Korean has circles, Japanese not so many strokes in the kanji and Chinese is holy crap @_@ (I know that Japanese adopted some of Chinese kanji into their writing. ) anyways I'm rambling. Btw attack on Titan scares me but the herp a DERP giant moments make me crack up.

Yeah this happen to me a lot too with my family and non otaku friends but I just simply roll my eyes and just ignore it since I know that is simply ignorance. I guess since we watch anime, hear songs and watch dramas/movies from different asian countries we can identify the languages when we hear it.

AMEN SISTA. That annoys me so much, too. Stupid, stupid people. So many think that they sound the same. >> And that they might as well be the same countries or something. You know Family Feud? I remember one episode, the question was, "Name something you relate to sumo wrestlers." And the guy said "they're Chinese." Uhhhhh WTF? I wanted to slap him for that.
Anyway...tis sad, but it seems common. People don't feel like being educated and seeing differences, even easy ones. >>
