This one is another joint chapter! Not all mine! Hope you enjoy!
I woke up to the abrupt sound of my alarm clock ringing. Hitting the snooze button, I climbed out of bed in a weird tangle of legs and covers. Moving like a sloth, I made my way to the bathroom. I turned on the lights and looked in the mirror. I looked horrible. My hair had turned into a mass of intricate knots. Deciding that my hair would have to wait, I walked over to the closet to pick out what I would wear today. I chose a purple dress shirt with a black belt, my favorite dark—blue denim jeans, and some white sneakers. I grabbed all my clothes and went to the bathroom and take a shower.
When I got out of the shower, I turned on my curling iron and blow-dried my hair while waiting for the iron to heat up. Since my hair is naturally curly when it air-dries, blow-drying it made my hair fall flat against my head; clinging to my skull. I started curling my strawberry-blonde hair; noticing the streaks of lighter brown subtly blending with the blonde locks of hair. When I finished, my face was surrounded by angelic ringlets of shiny hair.
I put on my make-up-starting with rose-pink lip gloss and finishing with eye shadow and mascara. I don’t put on much make-up- preferring the easier, natural look rather than the plastic, border line clown effect. I completed my look with a gold necklace and silver heart-shaped earrings, and then looked at myself in the mirror. Piercing lake blue eyes examined me with a calculating expression. I’ve never looked so girly and seeing myself in the mirror was surprising. Now, with the fluorescent lights adding a hypnotic depth to my eyes was one of the rare moments when I could be described as beautiful.
Loud banging on the door jolted me out of my reverie. I opened the door to be warmly greeted by ‘Morning Natalie’s’ ice blue glare.
“You’ve been in there for about two hours Princess. If you’re not glossed to perfection by now, get over it. I’m going to count to ten and if you’re not out of there, you’re gonna be sorry. One- “
“Okay sleeping Beauty.” I said with a sardonic smirk. The murderous look I received with that comment told me I was pushing my luck. Shrugging, I went to answer the door as someone tapped it gently.
“Is Natalie awake?” Allison asked in a nervous whisper.
“Yeah. She’s in the bathroom.”
“Okay,” she sighed in relief. “Mom wanted me to tell you that you have to ride the bus today.”
Groaning inside, I walked past her muttering (because all I needed was to have my little sister telling me what to do). Over half of the populations of buses consist of childish kids who probably won’t go straight to college when they graduate. I hate riding the bus. SO, to take my mind off the subject, I made some cereal and ate it morosely; staring at the wall.
Ten minutes later I made my way up the stairs to my room. With my belongings ready, I noticed that Natalie was primped, polished, and ready to go. Neither of us were morning people. We usually woke with morning breath, tangled hair, and a bad attitude. Looking at us now, one wouldn’t believe that. She could ready quickly-never giving thought to her appearance. Despite that, she always left the house looking good (which was why I hadn't’’ woken her sooner).
“I can ride with you, right?” I asked; already knowing the answer.
“You have to ask?” She understood. Having rode the same bus since 6th grade, we both had the same thoughts about public transportation.
“Nope. Just being polite this beautiful Monday morning.” Glancing at the window showed that it was not a beautiful day at all. Plump gray clouds covered the sky with its shadow, threatening rain.
“Yeah…beautiful. I love feeling like I could possibly be struck by lightning.”
“Doesn’t everyone?” I said, getting my book bag out of the closet.
We walked back downstairs and out the door. Natalie offered to let me drive but I was still slightly disoriented. Even though we’re the same age, Natalie got her license before me because she finished her driver’s Ed course first.
“What teachers do you have?” I asked.
“Um… I know the teachers but I don’t know what order I have them in. My schedule is in my bag- front left pocket.” I got my schedule out and dug through her bag to get hers. Now that mine was dry I could read the smeared words.

“I think so. Never seen him before and no one’s mentioned him.”
“Well I hope Science is gonna be interesting this year…”
*****
Most of my classes were boring. None held my attention for more than five minutes at a time. All of the teachers introduced themselves and went through the usual drill, talking in a regal voice-trying to intimidate us. After eating lunch with Natalie, I walked to my next class; not stopping to talk in the hallway. I didn’t talk much in my classes; preferring to see how my teachers lecture (for future note-taking purposes). When the 7th period bell rang, I forced my feet to carry me to Science. Sleep was hard to resist at this point and as soon as I walked in the class, I all but fell into my seat- falling asleep immediately.
As more students arrived, I reluctantly lifted my head off the desk. Natalie sat next to me and fell asleep using her jacket as a pillow. Just then the teacher walked into the room. I was too tired to notice anything but that his voice was slightly melodic. Too bad I didn’t listen longer. All I heard was “Mr. Lewis how old are you?” Then I zoned out.
, “Wah! What the heck! Can’t you see I was sleeping! Who is-,” Were the words that startled me- almost jumping five feet in the air. I looked at Natalie wondering why she screamed- then I saw Mr. Lewis standing next to her. She blushed and tried to apologize but Mr. Lewis cut her off.
“Detention” he said. I heard gasps from the class. “Next time I catch you sleeping in here. That goes for everyone.”
The varying expressions around the classroom were hilarious. “Nice one Nat.” I said giggling.
“Stop it Jenny! That was so embarrassing…” Natalie said, glancing around to see if anyone else thought this was funny. I then realized that, a few moments ago, that would have been me if I hadn’t taken a short nap before class began. Looking at the front of the class to see if he would continue teaching, I noticed Mr. Lewis was staring at me. Confused I returned his look until he abruptly left the class mumbling something about free period.

“So how was your day?” Natalie asked.
“Good.” I answered vaguely. I couldn’t concentrate on our conversation. Something about Mr. Lewis was familiar but I didn’t know what. The purr of the engine turned into a lullaby, making it hard to stay awake. I leaned my head against the window, barely noticing when my eyelids closed slowly.
About halfway down the alley I started to hear voices. My conscience kept banging against the walls in my head- telling me to go back. The alley ended right next to a mall so I figured nobody would mess with me and ignored the rational part of my brain.
I turned around the corner and stopped. He was just....amazing. Don't stare- just walk. If you're quiet, they won't notice you; I had to keep reminding myself. After I had walked a few steps I saw that the other person he was with was a young woman about three years older than me. They were talking about something and since I don't listen to other people's conversations (at least I try not to), I kept moving forward as quietly as I could… .
I woke shocked. Was Mr. Lewis the young man from the alley?
