I wanted to watch this because of comments saying that the ending was ‘mind fuck’ and the story is quite similar to Death Note but the same time it’s not. I was quite intrigued.
The story is set in 2113, where the world is managed by the Sybil system. The system Sybil can scan a person’s brain activity recognizing a person’s potential, stress level and even intent. This system have made the world quite peaceful and relaxing as it became easier to find criminals and violent tendencies.
Akane Tsunemori, is a new inspector for Unit one, was determined by the Sybil to have potential in all types of job chose to be a detective just simply because no one else was suggested to become a police officer. On her first day, she met her team, Nobuchika Ginoza, an inspector and enforcers Tomomi Masaoka, Shūsei Kagari, Yayoi Kunizuka and Shinya Kōgami. Enforcers act as hunting dogs, used to do find and, if needed, eliminate latent criminals.
The story is pretty engaging, I think the only Death Note-ish element here is when finding the main antagonist Shōgo Makishima. There were a lot of references or quote that depicts human behavior and society in general, which I find very interesting.
Also this is one of those rare situations that I have taken a liking to the music. It’s very rare that I would comment on them. The opening and ending songs fit the story and/or the main characters. My favorite Out of Control performed by Nothing’s carved in stone, for me, it fits Akane’s character as she tries to overcome the barrier between detectives and enforcers midst of the danger it could bring to her.
Overall, I would recommend this 22 episode anime, from the very first episode the story is quite intriguing and it was told in a pace where you don’t feel the need to go back to an episode just to understand a situation.
I will definitely keep a look out for the 2nd season and the movie that is going to be released this year.
