Just something I've wanted to rant on for a long time...and not talking about freelance/hobby artists like myself, we have no real obligation to draw anything we're not into really.
I'm talking about the work professional artists who produce the shows and manga we all consume.
(yep, I'm going there)
anyone else ever notice that the horses (and often the animals in general but horses are among the worst) in anime usually look really horrible?
Like, I totally get that they're usually not the focus of the story, and all that, blah blah blah...yeah...we know...
But tell me, is that really an excuse for the frankly shocking lack of animal drawing skills? It's like no one is even trying and expect no one to notice how bad it really looks, like they're deliberate half-a**ing.
I mean it's one thing when an animal is not as detailed so as to not take away from the important characters, it's entirely another when they're done so badly that they actually begin to distract me from what they want me to pay attention to...they want me to pay attention to the dramatic tension going on between the two characters conversing on the screen, But I can't get it out of my head how utterly freakish and ugly the horse in the background looks or how horrid it's movement is.
I know horses are hard to get right, their anatomy is difficult, their movement is complex and very different from dogs and cats, but for normally professional artists to be as bad as I've seen, I really think the effort really has to be lacking on their part.
And come on, if you're going into a project that involves maybe drawing something one's not used to drawing, there's something called researching your subject matter, at the very least so you can do it just well enough to not detract from the important stuff and the stuff you are good at.
I dunno, I guess I'm just tired of the laziness when some of these artist do just about everything else beautifully, but not this one basic aspect that they have workshops for in art school.
...and on a side note...has anyone else noticed that a lot of the horses in anime look like clones? Like, 99% of the time, they're the same ugly dirt brown with a slightly darker brown mane/tail...it's a conspiracy! the brown freakish horses will inherit the unsuspecting anime world!! O_O lol
And I've been writing a lot lately on here...I don't know why...maybe cause I have nothing better to do...or had a lot of petty crap to get off my chest, I dunno...oh well.

Update on our dog, bailey -
She is in emergency surgery as I write this, looks VERY bad, she has a ruptured spleen. It's all or nothing now, she either lives or dies today, she could even be gone right now already, I don't know yet, but please, more than ever, if you are reading this and believe in God, PLEASE pray for Bailey!
Kind of have a prayer request...I'm posting it on all my sites just because I'm kind of that desperate right now, and yes, this is my (KuboRocks') dog, we're talking about, this is not some pasted request from some random person on the net, this is one of our family pets.
lets start it off with a proper intro.
This is Bailey, our Black Tri-color Australian Shepherd:
She's the smartest dog we've ever had, and is very fun and well-loved. She has done therapy work (visiting hospitals and retirement homes to make the people feel better and give them something fun to enjoy), and is also a backup service dog for a friend of ours in the areas of asthma alert and some hearing alert, this friend uses Bailey if ever her dogs are sick or hurt - this friend is also a dog trainer, and has used Bailey as a "demo-dog" for examples for the students.
Bailey turned nine years old this January, so she is a senior citizen you could say, but for an aussie, a breed known to live to an adverage of 12 - 14 years or so, she is not ancient and should have some good years left in her.
but here is the problem, Bailey is in Very bad shape right now from a sudden probelm that has recently presented itself.
A few weeks ago, Bailey began to appear bloated and generally listless, absolutely opposite her normal, energetic, go-get-'em self (that she had been showing only a matter of days before). the vet gave her special food and some antibiotics it looked like a stomach upset and she had diarrhea and a slight fever.
she again began to improve slightly, but the bloating never went away.
eventually, we were forced to take her to the vet again as she turned for the worse again after apparently losing some bladder control. we had X-rays done this time, and it turns out the she for some reason has fluid buildup in her abdomen causing the bloating. they don't know why, though blood tests should come back by Tuesday - her back has gone bad again and it is difficult for her to get up again, the bloating could be aggravating it.
but the doctor has said that it does not look good for her, attempting to drain the fluid apparently could cause her to go into shock and apparently on dogs her age it is very often fatal. we are still trying to stay positive and weigh our options, but as stated before, it doesn't look good from here at all - even if there is a solution, there's a STRONG likelihood that we will not be able to supply the funds to pay for it with vet bills as they are.
Bailey is very unhappy right now, and uncomfortable. And we are all extremely worried that we may not be able to save her.
so I ask that you please pray for Bailey right now. This is not normal and is a very sudden and mysterious condition, this dog was frolicking, playing, and bossing around our other dogs and my friend's dogs like she would normally do as the energetic type-A personality she is. if she goes now, it will be tragically before her time.
Later, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
Okay, soooo...first day with the new account...
I gotta say, it's not as bad as I thought it was, starting fresh with a new account after closing my old one seems to be working out better, I feel more in tune with the site because it's essentially like erasing my memories of how things were done in the old version, and learning and adapting on this one.
that said, Version V does have some nice features, like the introductions, but I still am pretty well against the "worlds" idea, I think they should have kept it like the "myOtaku" interface, and instead of having our "profiles" be separte from our "worlds" they should have just made the wrold's our profiles in the first place, because from what I've gathered, not that many people who visit a person's profile actually bother to visit their world. where their REAL information that they'd like you to know about them is stored.
but whatever, I now know not to expect too much in that area. anyone who actually bothers to read this gets an imaginary cookie, I have a few submissions up now, so yeah, check em out...and stuff...later.
