Dreamworks gets Ghost

This morning the rights that will make Ghost in the Shell into a live-action movie were acquired by Dreamworks, with fierce support from Stephen Spielberg.

Avi Arad is producing the project. He works for Marvel studios and besides a number of cartoon series, also produced the Spiderman, Iron Man, and The Hulk movies, just to name a few.

Jamie Moss, most recently known for being the screenwriter of Street Kings is set to write the script.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Spielberg would direct himself, so the studio is beginning its search. No release date has been set yet.

When you think of the band KISS, I doubt many people think of Japan. Well, it looks like Gene Simmons of such musical fame went to Japan to do a cameo in a Japanese live-action manga-movie called "Detroit Metal City". Behind the scenes stuff will arise on his reality show, but for now, all we know is that he's the Demon God of Rock and Roll (like we don't know that already).

I'm a Metro Detroiter; this is my happy local news. Leave me alone.

Batmanime is Here!

Yes, I am not ashamed to use the word "Batmanime". Much like the Animatrix, part of the promotion for The Dark Knight includes a series of short, animated films made by some of the top studios from Japan. Some of the key names set to direct are Yasuhiro Aoki (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Hiroshi Morioka (Tsubasa Chronicle), and Shoujirou Nishimi (Akira, Detective Conan).

Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, Batman Beyond) is also set to produce.

Something else you might notice in the trailer is Kevin Conroy, who voiced Batman in every single Bruce Timm production is voicing him as well in this version.

This is a strange one, indeed.

I don't know if the video will work, but it's all in Japanese anyways. *shrugs* Anyways, a middle-aged man in Okayama Prefecture was arrested recently for stealing over 1,666 pieces of women's undergarments (of course in multiple thefts). Apparently, he liked to smell it. This deserves a big "WTF, mate", for sure.
