Yeah, I remember the Editorials, and they would get quite "spirited", to say the least! I do hope to see more of them, now that there is an outlet for them to be published and read. Maybe it just needs one to start the journalistic ball rollin'.
My comment isn't on Death Note (which I love), but it will be on the post itself.
It was good to see this editorial-style news, because it started with anime news and ended up with an editorial, i.e. an opinion on the news itself. After the old theOtaku articles went bye-bye, I never see them. They always present good starting points for serious discussions, and they're good for discerning what the limits of the discussion are. These types of news-related posts always remind us that news often involves living humans, rather than dusty facts. Well done.
I am not basing my claim on an individual's age from when they become parents, but their personality, habits, maturity and mental state. Being a physical kid and mature is different than being a physical adult and having the mentality of a party-boy/girl is another.
I don't believe that. In my neighborhood I see 13 years olds become parents and they are great parents everyone has the ability to be good a responsible parents.
What kind of parents would let there sixth-graders watch and or read something called Death Note not to mention the material in the manga and anime itself!!!
Believe it or not, there are some people out there who never were supposed to be parents. They don't know how to control their children and keep them in line. Besides, my best bet is that these children didn't let their parents know they were watching anime that late at night (I assume they are the type that refuse to read). I know I tried not to let my parents know I watched [adult swim] when I was in middle school. If they bought the manga, they might have hid it somewhere.

When I started reading manga at the age of 13. My mom would loook at everything I read. I had to wait until I was 16 to read Love Hina because my mom looked at the rating of everything before she bought it for me. So to the parents of said sixth-graders do your job!!!
Well, if you think about it, all of the Death Note incidents can add another idiotic cliche to the anime-fan stereotype. It's bad enough hentai and poor children's dubbing drags us down as far as we are now.
I love that the part most of us generally worry about is not the fact that these kids are getting charged/suspended/whatever, but that we're worried that they're giving the rest of us anime fans a bad name.
There's a quirkiness to that. I'm not judging it ('cause that's where I'm standing as well), but it's certainly quirky.

@Pleiades Rising:
This has kinda been the direction we wanted to go with Fan Word features, actually. Editorials about news rather than just straight-up news.
There's absolutely an audience for it, believe me.

If they want to be idiots that's their problem. Just don't let them drag all the rest of us down with them.
But yeah, it is pretty amusing seeing where our priorities are.
