Belated Sad Report

Yamamoto raised one eyebrow.

"I worry about Tsukiro being returned to active duty after recovering from the ordeal in the Gods' land. Kisuke and I know how to temper our rage in face of this betrayal. Considering his past and his youth, Tsukiro Ashimitsu may not be able to. I believe Kisuke and Yoruichi will be able to keep him from trying to enact his revenge and going after Kita alone; here, we might not be so lucky," he admitted in a lower voice, just before coughing fitfully.

Yamamoto waited in silence.

"I recommend that after I bring him back to Soul Society," Juushiro continued, taking a deep breath, "for the memorial that he remain off duty and return to Urahara's until further notice."

"That is one favor," Yamamoto intoned.

"The second is for myself," Juushiro explained. He paused. "Sensei, I know I shouldn't be in any position to ask for-"

"Juushiro," Yamamoto interrupted him before he go any further. "I told you before there is nothing to apologize for."

Juushiro opened his mouth to speak again then fell silent.

"You wish to watch over the boy, correct?"

His student nodded quietly.

Yamamoto sighed. "As long as Captain Unohana agrees that you will rest there, I have no objection to that." A small smile formed on his student's face. "However," he interjected, "I have one condition." He turned back to the scenery of Seireitei. "You are to stop blaming yourself for what happened. It is not your fault, Juushiro."

Juushiro chuckled to himself, feeling even more of the weight lift from his shoulders, and bowed his head. "Very well, Yamamoto-sensei, I will do," another cough shook him, "as you say."

Yamamoto nodded gravely. "Very good. Now report to Captain Unohana. I want that cough seen to before the memorial tomorrow."

"Yes, sir."
