I'm sure you could find the manga somewhere in stores or online. If you do read it, come and tell me what you think about it! I don't know anyone else who's reading it, so I have no one to discuss it with.
When the boxset containing the 1st and 2nd season plus the OVA came out, I had to pre-order my own copy. I don't know why, but it just grew on me. It's one of those anime that slowly became a favorite of mine. I mean, it's rare that I buy manga anymore, but I wanted those too!
In some ways, the manga is better. I think so because it's slightly more bleak, and that's appropriate when considering the issues it deals with. I mean, these are kids being manipulated for political reasons, and how unethical it is comes across even clearer in the manga. So, I'd give the edge to the manga!
I wonder what happened with the budget between the 1st and 2nd season. It's like the 2nd season was actually animated in 1987, buried in a time capsule, then dug up after the 1st season concluded. I'm even more puzzled that it was released on Blu-Ray!
At first glance, it appears to be an action anime with "little girls with big guns" (as the promotional line used to advertise it went...oh, how I still hate that somewhat misleading line). However, it's more subtle than that, often fairly reserved. I enjoyed it enough that I had to reserve the boxset when it was first released, then buy all the manga afterwards, haha. Plus, the 1st season OP uses a fantastic song by The Delgados. Go and find the song "The Light Before We Land." Amazing.
Lately your series had been a big "punch" to my subconscious self.I found myself wanting to actually read them just by the interesting description of the style and the story.Well , you got me into the story good friend.Thinking of looking at some pages if I can find an example of the manga.
i've actually had the first dvd of Gunslinger Girl since it was released over here. I remember it being pretty different, but it was enjoyable as well. I havent kept up with it though, so i may have to rewatch the first dvd so i can see if i can remember it lol.
Would you say the manga is better than the anime or vice versa? Or does the manga's story line follow closer to season 1 or season 2's?
I definitely agree that season 1's art was way nicer than the 2nd. I have to admit that that's why I didn't finish the 2nd season, despite its better plot.... ^^; Perhaps I'll have another go at it!

I keep hearing about this series, and I'm only hearing good things. I'm very selective when it comes to anime though, so I think I'd gladly read your review if you do decide to make one!
And I wouldn't be surprised if Machiavelli advised such a thing...because it seems as though some leaders are running with scissors >_>
