*shakes head* Wow, so there are terms, just not limits to those terms. I suppose if it ain't broken, why fix it? But stagnation can also be an issue that can come with something like that. Good luck to you all though! Perhaps someone else will come around in your life time, Plei!
The malignant rhetoric that crept in after the election was unbelievable. When I watched my Twitter feed that evening, some political pundits were quick to find any kind of racist angle in discrediting President Obama's win. Then there was Donald Trump, who more or less exposed himself with his comments as being entirely self-interested and uncaring about representative democracy when it didn't turn out in his favor.
All that bickering, however, does give musicians plenty to work with!
When you hear of a streak like that, you gotta wonder if they really do have terms! But yeah, the provinces do have terms, and the ruling political party here just keeps winning whenever election-time rolls around. I think some of it's due to older voters (and some younger ones, too) who don't really want to rock the boat by electing another political party. (Our province is in a way Canada's economic engine, or at least the fuel that keeps it going, as it were. That's why some issues here are so touchy, dividing people left and right.)
Maybe I'll live long enough to see a different party ruling here, for once.
Paul Ryan strikes me as one of the least likely people to like RATM. That's just too ironic.
I don't even want to contemplate what kind of songs some people might write for modern campaigns, especially these days with all of the overt racism toward Obama. Although I'm sure Hank Williams Jr. would be happy to write campaign songs for Republicans.
That one was amusing, considering what the song was actually about. I'm also reminded of how Rage Against the Machine didn't like the fact that Paul Ryan liked their music.
I wonder how campaign music would sound like if they still made original songs...
I've been disappointed in some of election results up here, too, so I know the feeling! Imaging living in a province where one party ruled the political roost for the past 41 years. Yeah, that's the situation I'm in, haha.

It is an interesting historical point that I don't think we think about all that much anymore, that 'back in the day' people wrote songs specifically for a campaign. I'm not sure how true that's been since around the end of the 20th century, where politicians are more likely to just choose an existing, well-known song as the anthem of their campaign.
Like when Reagan used 'Born in the USA', which really put Springsteen's knickers in a twist.

@bellpickle:
If I wrote campaign music, it'd be full of tubas, hand organs, and lots of cymbals. It'd put the Ringling Bros to shame.

Wait, what? 41 years? That's just crazy... So...they don't have terms?

I voted but came out a little disappointed.
