I know that was a cliffhanger. I'm afraid I can't resolve it at the moment, hence why I'm posting here.
Now the fun part: half-formed ideas.
The next hurdle: How does Dice react to Naomi revealing that she's one of the Children of Terra? I know Naomi would feel some responsibility for this whole situation, as irrational as that is. But what about Dice? I've had a bit of trouble getting a handle on him. You might have figured that out because I tend to write him as being simultaneously clueless and wise.
Dice's blood: As I stated before, Dice's blood is what sustains him. It was also compatible with Naomi and Marshall because of their inhuman abilities. Dice doesn't know this, but his blood is actually toxic to normal humans and could kill them. I don't know how to illustrate this within the story other than to have him accidentally kill off another character while trying to heal them. I feel bad having to create a character just to kill 'em off, though.
Naomi's and Marshall's abilities: Dice's siblings developed a drug from Dice's blood. Somehow they're using this to kill off humans. Naomi's mother became infected before giving birth to Naomi, and died a few years thereafter. The side affect is that it passed these inhuman abilities on to Naomi. The same is true of Marshall, though it was his dad who was infected.
Logic and Creativity: I have a really hard time trying to flesh out these two. First of all, they started out scared of humans, just as Dice was. Somehow they must have overcome that fear because of the way they react to Naomi and Marshall. Or maybe they just think young humans aren't that dangerous. I don't know. They haven't seen Naomi or Marshall use their abilities, so they think they're just normal humans.
The blood-parents: I have yet to figure out how they conceived their children without bodies. Maybe it was before they were burned up. But if that were the case, why did it take so long for their children to develop? Again, I don't know. Their whole existence is not well-developed in my mind. I haven't figured out their origin either. What I do know is that they're dead because their blood can only live for so long without anything to sustain.
Naomi's family: I want to incorporate Naomi's dad and brother into the story somehow. I have this scene in my mind in which Naomi's dad finds out out about Naomi's abilities to glow and float, but I'm not sure how he'd react.
The Children of Terra: My description of this religion has been vague, mostly because I don't feel comfortable making up a religion. Still, I didn't want to affiliate Naomi with a real religion for fear of controversy. So I put myself in a difficult situation.
I know that this is a lot to throw at any of you who have read this. Please let me know if anything is unclear. Thanks.
