Hahaha! That gif is great! :p And so is the picture. >_> I only just started using Internet slang when talking to people online. I feel like I'm betraying the English language somehow when I do.
Even though I think grammar and spelling is evil. XP
Directed here by Crystia's post in The Lounge with that gif. :p I love it really. Since I really find the habit of using words like that just to do it... annoying. Though as SomeGuy said, intent does factor into it.
And yes, one of my friends who is a Guild Wars player thought of what you did too Des. It was funny because his first instinct was to find Gavin and smack him upside the head until I explained it meant something else.
I laughed the first time I saw Gavin call her that since, being an avid Guild Wars player, I immediately thought of this rather than the modern Japanese meaning. :p

:p I tend to avoid it because I feel stupid using a word that isn't mainstream English. It happens from time to time, but I avoid it. I do find it annoying when people do it to me and I have no clue what they are saying. Like the Gaki Sabrina mentioned. I had to ask to find out what that was suppose to mean.
Also, I think I know what giff Beth is referring to... I should see if I can find it and post in the thread for fun stuff since it is hilarious.
o_O Is that why Gavin calles Crystia Gaki instead of using the English word?
I haven't been exposed enough to have really picked up any words, but if you're talking to someone who doesn't know it... seems kind of silly to me. Hehe.
Man, you have no idea. People like that run fansubbing operations. Stop leaving "nakama" as is, idiots! I don't care if there's no direct translation! It's not more meaningful than any word in English, you're just too lazy to adapt it to the situation!
I use honorifics and Sensei a lot, though. Part of Karate. I'm planning to learn the language anyway.
[SMARTASS]That was very well said, Desu-san, very kakkoi![/SMARTASS]
It's times like that I clench my fist and mutter "fuckin' otaku!" to the people around me. But yeah . . . I dunno, I do know for a fact that Japanese people will be amused if you don't overdo it and throw in some well-spoken full phrases or whatever (a couple actually encouraged me to, so hey). But really, if the intention is just to show off how much "more otaku" you are than someone else, then well . . . that's when they toss you onto the side of the road for the tori to pick your bones, I imagine.
Yeah, for me, the actual act of doesn't bother me as much as the specific mindsets behind the act. Probably the same thing, really, but yeah . . .
hahaha! Love the picture Dessy. :p That's the best part of the entire post and reminds me of a great giff I saw a while back. I'll have to see if I can hunt it up for you. ^_^

Dammit, my immediate urge was to comment with something like "How kawaii of you," but Samuel L. Jackson is too scary. ^^;;
