I can fully appreciate what you're saying here. That's why, with the only exception being the addition of numbers when necessary, I go by Petie on an almost global basis.
For the rest of the world that does not share these beliefs though, I'd recommend getting a program like Trillian or Digsby in which you can rename and merge contacts, making them easier to keep track of.
