How to get a nice, defined, black and white image (using Photoshop CS4)
OK, first of all you have to have a program to work with your image in, hoapfuly you have something beter than Paint on you computer. I use Photoshop CS4 ( i dunno if thats a good program for this or not) so what I do is:
1. Before Scanning, trace your drawings in black pen (normal black pen works, i don't actualy have anything beter to tell the truth) and make sure to eraise the pencil well. This is just so the lines are nice and defined on the computer.
2. Whene you scan, use grayscale mode but after the image is on your computer convert it to RGB color.
Image > mode > RGB color
3. Hit Ctrl + Alt + M and click OK to ajust the curves of the drawing, if your not happy with the result ( i never am ) than you can do it manualy, but its a litle harder. Hit Ctrl + M or go in:
Image > Adjustments > Curves
to open the curves window. Select the black point tool and click on the area of the drawing tha you want to be the darkest (in my case, i usualy clik on one of the eyes of my charecter) There's a Screen Shot below:
Ok, now we have to set the White Point. Chose the white point on the same window and click on the lightes area of you drawing, the background in other words. If there's a lot of noise on your image than click on the noise, but be carful, if your image isin't wel scaned some of your important lines might dissapear ( i have expirience with this lol ). This is why i said for you to trace it in black pen. If you can't find the white point or got lost with my ranting here's a Screen Shot:
there your done!!! you shoul have a nice clean image, if not than you could hit Ctrl + M again and set another white point. Good luck folowing the tutorial lol and PLEASE forgive my spelling!!!!!!!! I tried my best hehe ( i'm a foreigner as you may have gessed) Thanks for reading =D And i hope I was of some use =]
