Well,What happened to Vlad after that?What did they steal?What if,this thing they stole was a necklace/medallion/ring/special stone?And then,Kannstense was sort of a show-off and went with his bro to a small village,and he put it on,and then,he was cursed with the black magic sealed in the artifact,and that's what made him ill.The merchant,being cautios dude,went to a black mage,one of the few in the world,to curse it 'cause it was a "not-for-sale memento" and came back to the shop.Vlad happened to walk by the shop while Thaddeus was "out",he snuck in to find some clue,and voila,the card of the black mage.It had flames,bolts and confetti shooting out of it when he touched it,so he took it with him.This is all I could think of.
