Optimistically saying, I believe the reason why we're not worse off than we are now is because of the ones that do realize this and actually do something about it. I would say it's a shame that they're not more recognized for doing so, but it's better that way in the long run; the real shame would be if people decided to do the "right thing" only to obtain false popularity.
(By the way, thank you for the compliment! *hugs*)
Mmm power and all that... Those fortunate enough to have it should use it in a better way, selfish people can ruin things...
I just hope that if enough people choose to think about how their actions affect others then perhaps things can work out better. Tis all rather frustrating really...
Don't worry about babbling ^^ I like reading babble. Besides yours is intelligent babble, so thats fine.
Actually, in most other countries (from what I've heard) they pay their gas by the liter. In other words, they end up having to pay more for their fuel than we do in most cases.
Here's a problem that we face as human beings with regards to this issue: we've known for centuries that tampering with the earth and its resources eventually leads to some form of chaos. However, we have a tendency to live in our own little worlds and forget that other, uncontrollable factors play into our lifes--whether we like it or not. In this case, I believe that the psychological root of this issue resides in our desire to better ourselves without having to think beyond the here and now. Historically (by a Western stand-point), this mindset has evolved within us since the Medieval period; in which the ultimate way of showing power amongst those who pocessed it was conquest. This same state of mind transforrmed it's ferocity within us when the Industrial Revolution started up. And lets not forget Imperialism--if not for THAT period in time WWI and utimately WWII would never have happened. Sure, we're more "aware" of what we've been doing in today's time, but does that mean we will be willing to change in a matter of a few years when our sense of destruction has had a hold on us after so long?
(Sorry if this comment was too long--the history-loving, psychology-interested, current-philosophy student in me came out and didn't want to be stopped... =_=;)
Mmhmm. The thing that gets me is that it has so many more uses than just fuel. I mean how many things can you see made out of plastic? And it gets burned away...
Our poor atmosphere...
*tries to restrain self from going on an environmental rant* ...
Also, some people think that everything can be sloved by using ethanol... But that ethanol is usually created from sugar or grains... And if it becomes the dominant fuel source then surely global prices for grain will go up - and then millions will be short of food (well, there is a problem there already) as they won't be able to afford it...
I'm not grumbling at you! Just thinking to myself...
I think we all need to think about how we live and what we depend on... Humans mess things up too easily...
I think fuel prices over here get taxed more, so they have been higher than in the USA for a while. I don't drive, so I don't know exactly what they are right now, but tis much higher than it was a couple of years ago.
As I see it, we're only dependent on it because we let ourselves be that way. Think about it: we had every opprotunity to search for alternative ways of fueling our vehicles a good twenty to thirty years ago. The problem is that we didn't bother to go that route earlier because fossil fuels are cheaper than anything else out there at the moment. (I strongly believe human nature had something to do with it too, but I'm no expert on psychology so my opinion in that regard doesn't come out to much by professional standards. )
And when you really think about it--it is amazing that "black gold" and the like used to me nothing more than orgainic matter.
Well it is only going to get worse really... I mean there is only so much oil in the world...
Shame that so much stress is caused over it too *sighs* but everything is so dependent on it... And to think it was once little plants floating in the ocean!
