No need to apologize, just a simple mistake. Long swords are as the name says but they are a thin blade to allow for reach without loosing to much speed. The broadsword is the same length or longer then a Long sword but are like twice the blade width. Broadswords were designed to slice thru heavy armor and or multiple enemies with relative ease. However, the were heavier, slowly, required two hands and longer training time to be welded effectively in battle.

Seems I confused broadswords for shortswords,I thought they were in this order:

Shortswords: a bit longer than daggers

broadswords: normal length swords wielded by one hand

longswords: long and heavy swords only wielded by two hands.

I like the visual and frustration you had of Ivan's turmoil. But I disagree about your character's ability to one had a broadsword. Not trying to be rude but broadswords are designed as a two handed weapon.
