Chapter 4: Captured

“Ugh!” I grunted as I collided with the floor, letting out a long breath of air. Being blind right now was seriously getting on my nerves. The floor was hard and cold, as if it were made out of stone. By the sound of my fall echoing around the room, this was a huge room… There was no way I was on the beach anymore.

There was a voice… That stupid, idiotic voice was calling out my name again. Why wouldn’t it stop pounding against my head? Then I realized who it was…

Axel. ” I snarled under my breath. I heard him laugh slightly, his feet resounding on the floor behind me as he stepped out of the portal I had just come out of.

“Yes?” he chuckled, walking towards me. Taking a moment to breathe, a light bulb went off in my head and my expression changed. I propped myself up with my arms and turned towards him, my anger completely drained from my face and replaced with a pathetically defeated look. I glanced down towards the floor, still facing him.

“Will you help me up?” I murmured quietly, looking up at him with big watery eyes. I heard him exhale softly in surprise and stumble backwards a step before he snapped out of it and smirked.

“So the damsel in distress finally admits that she needs help…” he chuckled to himself before walking over to me. I heard his footsteps stop only a foot away from my head and I looked up toward to source of the noise and stuck out my hand in that general direction. He snickered, but rolled his eyes and reached for my hand anyway.

I felt his hand grasp mine and I smiled, my expression transforming from innocent to wicked in a split second. Too late, Axel realized what I was doing and tried to pull his hand away from my grip unsuccessfully. Shifting my weight, I threw him across the room with a grunt and rolled into a somersault, picking up my rod and landing on my feet in the process. Axel loudly collided with the wall only twenty feet away from where I stood. Snarling, I whipped my head around at him and swung my rod up, taking a defensive stance.

“Okay,” I demanded, yelling now, “What in the heck is going on here?! Where am I, you pervert?! Why in the world did you kidnap me?! If you had paid enough attention while you were stalking me, then you would know that I don’t have anything valuable, you imbecile!” As I was saying this, I walked over to where he was slumped on the floor. I grabbed his shirt in my fist and pulled his face toward mine, glaring threateningly at him. “What do you want from me?” I growled, tightening my grip on his shirt. I heard him snicker and then smirk, obviously not intimidated by me, but not making the attempt to attack me either.

“You were right, Axel. She does have quite the temper…” I heard a voice call out form somewhere… above me? My unseeing eyes looked up for only a second before I was suddenly flying backwards, unable to stop myself from slamming into the floor. It wasn’t until I felt the throbbing bruise on my face that I realized Axel had punched me. Flipping up onto my feet, I looked over at him menacingly, daring him to do that again. He just snickered and took a step backward before he… disappeared? His presence vanished as what sounded like some kind of portal in the air closed up where he once was. I cursed under my breath and braced myself for an attack.

“Now, now,” I heard the same voice from before call out to me, “It isn’t polite for a lady to curse…” The voice resounded quietly and the slight echo in the room helped me pinpoint exactly where the voice was coming from. I stared up in that direction and glared at the source.

“If it isn’t polite then why does Larxene do it all of the time?” a slightly high and reedy voice that sounded like a teenage boy asked randomly, making me jump. It was then I realized that there was more than one person in the room…

“Shut up, Demyx.” A girly voice threatened... was this Larxene?

“What? I was only telling the tru- ACK! Larxene! Don’t throw those at me!! You might actually hit me!” The voice from before- Demyx- complained.

“Serves you right, you little insect…” Larxene muttered under her breath.

“Larxene, we don’t want to kill the boy, now do we?” A new voice pitched in, lower than the others, but it had a slightly amused tone to it.

“At least maim him first. Otherwise, it’s no fun.” Another voice added. I think it was a guy…

“Hey, we don’t want to kill off our fellow members, now do we?” This person’s voice was met with silence before he laughed loudly. “Okay, maybe not right now…”

“Hmmm… Xylia, do you think we should-?” This voice was interrupted by yet another and it was getting harder and harder for me to track who was talking. They kept on interrupting each other at the same time.

“Oh, no you don’t.” Yet another voice called out. “Don’t you dare give her any ideas, Ximena. You know what happened last time and I am not cleaning up your mess again.”

“Oh come on, Vexen. You are such a spoilsport…” There was a swishing sound, as if this person was waving their hand in the air. “Just because Ximena covered for me, doesn’t mean she’s the one who gave me the idea. If you want to blame anyone, blame Zexion. He’s the one who stole my book collectio-”

“Now don’t you try and pin this on me!” A slightly angry voice called out. This one was definitely a guy… “It was Luxord. He framed me!”

“What’s the matter, Zexy? Can’t take it?” Someone chuckled. Apparently this was Luxord.

“I thought I told you not to call me that!” Zexion growled.

“Here we go again…” Someone muttered under their breath.

“I wonder how long it’ll take for you guys to shut up and realize that we still have a guest.” Someone called out, stopping their arguing. By this point I was already sitting on the floor, bored out of my mind with my head resting in my palm. I yawned.

“If you idiots are done squabbling like a bunch of old married couples fighting over a bingo game, I’d like to get some answers. But please, don’t let me interrupt your fine conversation.” I called out sarcastically, my pole already in its shrunken form inside of one of my pockets. One of them laughed.

“I like her. She’s funny.” She giggled slightly. It wasn’t Larxene or the Ximena girl, so it must have been Xylia. I snorted, unamused, but glanced questioningly up at her with my unseeing eyes. There was a sigh and a shaking of a head.

“We apologize for our rudeness. After all, we are the ones who brought you here…” There was a long and uncomfortable silence afterwards. I waited.

“Soooo…” I drawled, trying to hint that I still had no clue what I was doing there. Apparently I didn’t hint strong enough. I sighed and rolled my eyes. “And you brought me here becaa-aauuse…?” He finally got the hint.

“We brought you here to see if you were organization material.” The voice replied, as if it were obvious. I still waited in silence for him to explain. Many moments passed. Finally, I groaned.

“Come on!” I complained. “I’ve been sitting here for who knows how long, waiting for some decent answers, and that’s the best you can come up with? That’s pathetic!” I stood up, brushing off the back of my pants with my hands, before walking away from the wall.

“I mean even I could come up with something better then that! I would say ‘Silence! You’re a hostage. You have no right to ask such questions!’” As I spoke the phrase, I changed my voice, mimicking the one who answered me. “Or maybe ‘We brought you here to tell you that you have just won one million munny and we just wanted to give it to you in person before sending you on your way.’ or even ‘We are a traveling circus who are looking for new performers! We want to offer you a job as an acorn-eating acrobat that likes to beat people with a stick! Now watch me as I do a silly dance in a pink tutu with my pet monkey, George, and eat a whole potato at exactly the same time!’”

I waved my hands in the air, pretending to do a silly dance. I heard multiple snickers escape some of the mouths of the people in the room as they tried to hold in their laughter. There was an angry grunt and the air patterns shifted. Realizing what was happening, I dodged to the left just as something sharp and hot zoomed past my forehead.

“I DO NOT ACT LIKE THAT!!!” The man yelled angrily, huffing slightly.

“If you say so…” I mumbled, shrugging indifferently as I shuffled a bit more to the left and away from the weapon...

The man flicked his hand and the sharp object flew quickly back towards its owner. I let out a sigh of relief, glad I wasn’t being attacked anymore. Or at least I thought I wasn’t…

Another object flew past my head and I ducked into a somersault. “Geez! What the freak was-” I didn’t get the chance to finish my question before I was suddenly being attacked by all of these weapons. Spears, arrows, bullets, and kunai of some sort rained down towards me with speed, making me yelp and run for my life. Narrowly avoiding getting pelted and pierced through with those things, I desperately searched my options. I knew I wouldn’t last much longer dodging like this. However, I didn’t know if there was a door and I didn’t have time to check or I might get destroyed in the process.

I turned abruptly and a speeding bullet just barely flew past me, singeing the end of one of my braids. Thinking fast, I stuck my hand into my pocket and pulled out my rod. Pressing the end into the wall, I clicked the button and it quickly extended, rapidly shoving me to the other end of the room with its force. Not wasting a second, I pushed off of the floor with my pole and began to climb blindly, following my instinct and the echoes of sound to guide me. Now I knew why the voices were above me now. I was in a room that had seats built high above into the walls. No wonder the attacks were coming from above me!

I ran up the walls, jumping off the sides of the chairs in order to stay up. I ran around one of the chairs, making the attack rain on them partially too.

“OW!!! Xigbar!! Watch where you’re shooting that thing!!!” one of them screeched in pain as some of the bullets hit him.

“Sorry, dude.” Xigbar called out, laughing slightly. “I can’t help it if she runs in front of you.” I giggled and ran away from the annoyed guy to find another shield. The spears weren’t coming from above anymore, but rather from my front as I ran across the wall, so I had to be a lot more agile and careful where I stepped. Then I felt it. A spear heading straight for my chest. I didn’t have time to dodge it I realized, too late. Instinctively, I raised my arm up to block the blow and before I knew it, the spear rebounded against my pole, barely grazing my shoulder instead of cutting right though me.

I blinked. Wait a second… I thought. Swinging my arm around, I deflected some of the arrows and kunai that were being thrown at me with the long rod I held in my arm. It’s like practicing with that ball… Realizing I had an advantage, I stopped jumping, letting gravity pull on me as I fell towards the floor. The weapons flew towards me and I grinned, having fun as I deflected them towards the other people in the room. Cries of surprise resounded in the room as the weapons flew towards their heads and the people firing the objects stopped immediately. Unable to stop myself from falling, I let my feet press against the wall and push me forward, twirling into a tumble before landing on the floor with my feet. I let out a relieved sigh and tried to regain my breath, my hands on my knees as I panted from running so much.

I heard someone behind me clap and I whirled to find who else but- “Axel.” I growled. He laughed. A voice from one of the chairs above us called out to him.

“Axel… We need to see how well she responds in one-on-one combat…” they sang quietly. I only had a second before I felt the air shift and two weapons appeared in his hands. He smirked.

“Sorry, kid. Superior’s orders. I’m gonna have to hurt you.” He let the weapons twirl in his fingers as he took an offensive stance. I ‘humphed’ and whipped my pole upward, one of the ends facing him as I also took an offensive stance.

“How about this? You beat me and I’ll let you keep that pretty head of yours. If you can’t touch me, which you won’t, I’ll wipe that smirk off of your face.” He laughed.

“It’s a deal.” He replied, lunging forward.

Yup. This was definitely going to be a long day…

So the entire organization has shown up (she has yet to hear or recognize one particular member...) but if you can name which orgy member is which, congrads! You get a cookie!! (And an honorable mention! ^^)

The big fight between Axel and Nix is coming up... Oh, I am definetly going to have fun with that one.

So sorry if the characters are ooc, but I might be able to change that in the future! (I spent an oober amount of my already miniscule savings getting both of the games! YAY!! ...but I'm stuck in the first one and I can't beat Cerberus... I really do suck at video games...)

So yeah, my characters (c) by me

Kingdom Hearts and the most awesomest organization (c) by not me...

So basically if you try to claim (etc.) any of this as your own, you're screwed! Isn't the world wonderful?!!

KH: NJAN Chapter 3

So here is the next chappie!!! Yay! From here on the plot will be kind of awkward so brace yourself, but it will get pretty interesting...

Chapter 3: Nightmares

I woke with a start, covered in a sheen of cold sweat. I shivered. Why did I get the oddest sensation that someone was watching me? I glanced around the room only to be met once again with the darkness that came with being blind. Slowly lifting my body off of the floor, I straightened my arms. I felt something slide down my back and I shivered before turning around and grabbing the object, stopping its descent.

It was a sleeping bag.

I must have fallen asleep during the cake wars and someone had put it over me. I slowly got up, the cold floor making me shiver again as my bare feet brushed it. Deciding that I would go practice my act for work before everyone woke up, I slung the sleeping bag over my shoulder and slowly walked across the floor, finding my way with my feet. My foot gently nudged something warm and I stopped walking, kneeling down on the ground beside it. It breathed and I smiled, glad to know that he was alive. Slipping the sleeping bag off of my shoulder, I pulled it over the sleeping Zinan, who was shivering slightly in the middle of the room. I patted his hair away from his face and listened to his breath go in and out. “Thank you.” I whispered softly. He simply sighed quietly and turned his head. I smiled softly once more.

Standing up and carefully avoiding hitting Zinan, I softly padded over to where Kanaye was fast asleep, mumbling gibberish happily while he dreamed. I giggled. I touched his face with my hand and I realized that he was covered in cake crumbs and was hugging the empty container that had once held the cake. I rolled my eyes and laughed quietly before brushing the crumbs off of his face and gently pulling the box out of his hands. He mumbled something incoherent and rolled over. I grinned and placed the box on one of the crates we used for furniture.

Stepping over to where Sachi and Haru were sleeping, I knelt down and felt around on the wall before I found the crate and my hand brushed against something that felt like hair. Reaching towards it, I realized it was Sachi and I smiled, running my hands through her extremely short hair a few times before kissing her forehead. The hand that was rested on her cheek felt her smile and I smiled with her as she snuggled closer to Haru for warmth, burying her face in his chest. When I moved my hand from Sachi’s face, it grazed something that felt like skin. Touching it gently, I found that Haru had wrapped his arm around Sachi protectively in his sleep. I chuckled slightly. I heard his breath quietly leave his mouth and I smiled.

I felt a few salty tears escape my eyes and fall down my cheek. I stood up, wiping at them with my wrist as I walked to the door to our hideaway. I shook my head, trying to get rid of this sad feeling as the traitorous tears ran down my face. It was an odd feeling indeed.

“I hate it so much...” I whispered quietly to the darkness as the water fell from my eyes. “Not being able to see… I wonder if I’d worry as much if I could see all of your faces…” I stood in the silence for a long moment. I shook my head incredulously. I was being pretty silly. I didn’t have to be afraid of them disappearing. It was just a dream after all. I sighed. Then why did I get this weird feeling that something wrong was going to happen as soon as I left the room?

A sudden shuffling sound in the room made me freeze for a moment. A small voice called out to me. “Sissy?”

I automatically relaxed. “What is it, Sachi?”

She yawned and walked up to me, taking my hand in her small one. “What are you doing?” I smiled down at her.

“I’m talking to you.” I replied quietly. Sachi frowned.

“Then what are you doing at the door?” I smiled. Sometimes this little girl was a bit too smart.

“I was just going to go practice before work.” I said sweetly. She pouted.

“But it’s too early for work!” she whined. I sighed and crouched down to her level.

“Whatever you say, Sachi.” I replied, giving in to her pleadings. She smiled.

“You’re silly, Sissy.” We stood there in the silence for a few more moments. Sachi yawned again. “Sissy?”

“Yes, Sachi?”

“Can we go to sleep now?” I chuckled quietly.

“Yes, Sachi. Go lie down.” Sachi smiled and pulled me towards where she was sleeping before. I sat down next to her as she got back in her sleeping bag. I sat there for many minutes in the silence, waiting for her to go to sleep. When I thought Sachi was deep asleep, I started to get up.

“Sissy?” I froze and then sighed, caught in the act. I turned and looked at her.

“Yes Sachi?” I asked sweetly.

“Will you stay with me?” I looked down at her in surprise and felt her wide eyes staring up at my face. I smiled.

“Yes, Sachi. I’ll stay with you. Now go to sleep.” I whispered. She smiled one last time before closing her eyes and sighing. Within minutes, she was sound asleep. I chuckled before lying down next to her and closing my eyes, unable to sleep, but unable to stay awake.

I sat there and thought, the memories of my recent dreams playing my head. That boy… Who was he exactly? Why was he haunting my dreams? I could almost sense him now… Standing next to me…

~~~
I woke up with the feeling that someone was watching me again. It scared me. I futilely tried to see who it was, but being blind didn’t help that situation at all. I sighed as the feeling disappeared once more and the quiet sounds of my sleeping friends caused me to relax. I groaned quietly. Was there no end to this torment?
I sat up, careful not to wake Sachi, and pulled my rod out of my pocket before standing. I must have fallen asleep when I was thinking about that dream. I walked up to our window and touched the surface to realize it was warmer than I had expected. I must have slept longer than I thought if the sun was already up and warming the window. Concluding that my family would be waking up any time now, I pressed the extend button on my rod and decided to practice hitting that ball in the air while I still could before going to work... to hit that ball in the air… I sighed, wishing I could do something a bit more productive, but I unhappily settled for this. I walked, still barefoot I might add, outside and padded down the street.
I shivered slightly as my exposed feet hit the cold stone that made up the path, but I ignored it, absorbed in my own thoughts as I walked to my usual practicing place. I hadn’t realized it was so cold outside. I wished I had grabbed one of the guys’ jackets. It was freezing out here! I froze. Wait. If it’s so cold out here? Then why was the window warm when I touched it? I shivered again, but this time it had nothing to do with the cold.
I turned around, my unseeing eyes wandering over my surroundings aimlessly. The feeling that I was being watched was back and stronger than ever. It sent more shivers up my spine. I could practically feel someone's eerie gaze on me ask I walked. “Who’s there?!” I called out, refusing to let the fear show in my face.
Silence.
I sighed and kept on walking, tapping the pole along the things in front of me as I went. There was no reason to be afraid, I told myself. You’re just being paranoid. I heard a shuffling noise to my left and I spun, lifting my rod in defense toward the noise. All was silent.
I growled slightly, mad at whoever was following me. “I’m not an idiot, you know. I know someone is there.” I was met with silence once more. I sighed and put down my rod, walking forward once more. “Maybe you are going insane, Nix.” I muttered to myself, glaring at the floor in frustration.
I felt the path end and my foot nudged something soft that bounced slightly away from me when I touched it. It was the ball I used to perform. I picked it up and kept on walking, not stopping despite the eerie feeling I had until I felt the sand between my toes and the mist of the sea on my face. I was finally at the beach. I sighed, trying to relax as I sat down and crossed my legs in front of me, closing my eyes as I listened to my surroundings. Waves were gently crashing before me even though I couldn’t see them, filling my lungs with the smell of the sea.
I sat there for many minutes before I was finally relaxed enough to focus on the task at hand. I sighed and stood up, brushing the sand off of my pants and weighing the small ball carefully in my hands. “Let the games begin.” I muttered to myself before tossing the ball into the air. The air swished around it as it flew upward and then the noise stopped at it reached its peak before it started up again as it fell, this time approaching me.
I jumped up into the air, hitting it back up with the back of my heel before I landed back on the sand. I listened intently as it swished upward again, but then came to a stop. It began to fall again. I waited, this time deciding to test out my newly found weapon. I swung my rod upward and bunted the ball into the air just as it reached me, making a small pinging sound. I hit it again- and again- and again, letting all of my energy loose one bit at a time. Every time I hit the ball, I became a bit more frustrated at myself. Why was I doing this? I hit the ball a bit too hard and it went higher than I expected. I grunted, blowing a stray strand of my neon green hair out of my face. Now to try something really difficult… I thought, before leaping into the air.
Sticking my pole in the sand, I flipped upward, climbing up to the tip of the pole. I stood on top of it, balancing on it in the darkness that was my sight, and waited for the ball to fall. I heard the ball fall towards me and I stuck out my fist, punching it back into the air. It went up about a foot before it fell again and I kicked it. It was almost annoying how hard it was to keep the ball in the air and stay balanced on the pole, especially seeing as it wasn’t that deep in the ground, and it only fed my fury.
I pounded all of my frustrations and questions into that ball. Why did I have to be so weak? Why was I blind? I wanted to do more! I grunted as the ball flew into the air. How was it that I was stuck doing this job? Was this going to be what I did for the rest of my life? Waking up scared in the middle of the night with nightmares that haunted me? I didn’t want that. My breath came rapidly as I grew even more annoyed at myself. I didn’t want to feel like I was always being watched. I didn’t want to put my family in danger. My heart was pounding with adrenaline at this point, every question and every contact with the ball making me want to hit it even harder. And who was this boy that haunted by dreams? I was angry. I felt so helpless. Why was it that I couldn’t see? Why did my parents abandon me?
With an angry yell I kicked the ball away from me and jumped off of my pole, landing on the sand with a huff as I heard the ball splash in the water. My breath came in wild gasps as my anger drained. I was being irrational. Letting my anger and fear overtake me was a mistake. I sighed and wiped my forehead with the back of my hand. Well at least I wasn’t cold anymore. I heard light applause coming from behind me and I whirled towards the sound in shock.
“Bravo.” a voice laughed quietly. “You put on quite the show.” I stared in the direction of the sound, saying nothing. The man laughed again at my expression. “What? You’re surprised to see me?” I glared at him icily. He laughed once more. “No, I guess you’re not. I forgot our next recruit was supposed to be blind.” I felt his questioning gaze on my face. “But you handle yourself well enough that you’d think you’d be able to see what you’re doing.” I held up my long metal weapon defensively and glared at him.
“What do you want?” I practically growled. I heard him laugh and wave his hands in front of him.
“No need to get defensive. I was just sent out here because there was word that another nobody had appeared and she had potential.” He laughed once and then muttered, “Looks like Superior was right.” I shook my head incredulously.
“What in the heck are you talking about?” A twitch in the air told me he had smiled.
“Let me show you.” I glared at him.
“And I’m supposed to trust you why exactly? I don’t even know your name! For all I know, you could be some creepy old guy who has voodoo dolls of people he doesn’t like in his basement and stalks younger girls in his spare time! How does that make sense?! Please! Enlighten me!” I replied, my voice dripping with sarcasm. The man smirked.
“You need to trust me because I’m your only ticket home. And by the way, the name is Axel. Got it memorized?” Before I could blink, someone grabbed my arm and shoved me into what felt like some kind of portal. I felt the air shift around me as I fell towards what I didn’t know. All I could tell was that this was not going to be a pleasant day…
Duhn Duhn DUHN!!!
So, yeah, it was Axel who was watching her. (That's why her window was warm when she woke up. Hello? Fire elemental?)
Oh and I betcha didn't know she had green hair, now did ya?
So yeah, the characters might be a bit OOC, but I can't really help that much because I haven't played the game all the way through... (I just know who the characters are so far.) Yeah I know what you're thinking. "WHY IN THE HECK ARE YOU WRITING THIS THEN?!" Well because I like the KH game and I know what happens in the storyline! So there! (Besides, writing fanfics for KH is fun!)
Nix, Kanaye, Sachi, Haru, and Zinan (c) by ME!!!! Kingdom Hearts (c) by NOT ME!!!
Hope you liked it!!
KH:NJAN chapter 2
Okay, so here's the next chapter! This story is actually getting pretty interesting...
Chapter 2: Thank You
“Nix! Catch!”
I put my hands out in front of me just to feel something cool and hard hit them. A bar of icecream?
“Thanks Kanaye.” I replied as I felt for the edges of the plastic before unwrapping the cold object and sticking it in my mouth. The sweet taste flooded my taste buds, making me shiver almost at the dramatic difference in temperature. Being blind, I was a lot more sensitive to these types of things.
I felt Kanaye plop down next to me and Zinan, who was munching on his own ice cream while we waited for Haru and Sachi to come back from the store. They were out buying us supplies just in case we couldn’t pay the rent, which was more than likely at this point seeing as we were wasting even more munny buying stuff like ice cream!! …But I’m not complaining! Then again, Haru did like to take plenty of pictures wherever we went, so we could be waiting for a while…
Recently I’ve been dreaming about that boy again. What’s weird is the fact that I can’t see his face, but I can… sense, I suppose, that he’s standing there, in front of me. Being blind for as long as I can remember, I never really seen my dreams, but I can dream about feelings and he leaves a strong sense of... security? …faith? …trust? There wasn’t really a way for me to understand the colors or beauty that people claimed to see or dream about because I couldn’t see it, but I could feel things. And that is what made all the difference in the world to me…
“Zinan! Nix! Kanaye!” I turned towards the sound of the Sachi’s voice right before she rammed into me, knocking the ice cream clean out of my hands with the impact and hugging me in a tight embrace. I laughed and hugged her backing greeting. Haru’s footsteps padded lightly to my left as he watched us, amusement radiating off of him before he sat down on the sidewalk next to Zinan.
Sachi was chattering excitedly like the little kid she was. “-and there was a ton of different candy there and I couldn’t decide which one I wanted, so I asked this one guy and he said to pick the green one because it looked yummy and I told him that it was mint and I don’t like mint and he laughed and asked if I had tried mint before and I told him no and he laughed again-” She kept going on, relaying every possible detail to me as Kanaye and Zinan talked to Haru, discussing what he had bought. I smiled patiently as I listened to Sachi’s story. “-but Haru didn’t agree even though I begged him to get the red sleeping bag but he said that the red one was too expensive so I told him that you’d like the red one, but then he said you wouldn’t care what color it was so we bought the blue one and then we left and he wanted to take a picture of this bird but the bird kept on flying away so we had to chase it to its nest and there were these baby birds there and Haru took a picture of them and- They got your present, Nix!” she stopped excitedly. I blinked.
“Wait, what was that?” I asked, confused. Sachi tugged on my arm, pulling me to my feet before guiding me to the three boys that I hadn’t realized had left in the first place.
“Hold out you hand.” Haru said quietly. I complied. He grasped my hand with his own and placed something in my palm. I wrapped my hand around it and realized it was a metal cylinder that was about an inch around. I ran my other hand over it, my eyes wide with shock.
“What –what is this?” I stuttered in surprise. They all laughed.
“It’s for your birthday silly!” Kanaye said, ruffling my hair with one of his hands.
“We wanted to get you something that would help you get around when you’re at work, so we got you this.” Zinan added. “Press the button that’s near your thumb. It extends so that you can use it as a walking stick of sorts.” I nodded and ran my hand down the short length of the rod. Sure enough, there was a small button next to my thumb. Pressing it with my thumb, I felt a gear click and the metal quickly extended to form a long pole that was taller than I was. I laughed.
“This is amazing!” I exclaimed in joy as I pressed the button again and it shrank back to its normal size. “How in the world did you afford this?” I asked in amazement. Their silence was eerie and almost… awkward? I waited patiently. No one said anything. “Okay,” I muttered harshly, stuffing the metal bar into the pocket of my jeans before folding my arms across my chest. “Start talking.” No one spoke at fist, but then Haru sighed and rubbed the nape of his neck with his hand, slightly embarrassed.
“We begged our bosses to give us a bonus, so that we would be able to afford paying the rent tomorrow. They agreed to give us each a bonus as long as we worked twice as hard as usual, so we did. We worked our butts off and got more than we had originally expected. It was enough munny to pay the rent and even get some more sleeping bags. When we were going home today, however, we realized we hadn’t gotten you anything for your birthday. We felt guilty.”
Kanaye spoke up. “We realized that we weren’t always there to help you out, like when you were at work, so we looked into things that could be there for you. We searched for hours trying to find something just right for you. A pet would be to rash and frighten you easily; a skateboard or a scooter would be nearly impossible for you to use because you wouldn’t be able to see if you are about to run into anything. We finally stumbled across this.”
“The vendor who was selling it wanted quite a lot of munny for it and we knew we wouldn’t have enough without spending some of the money that we were going to use to pay the rent.” Zinan added. “We knew that we wouldn’t be able to earn any more munny if we tried, so we looked at our options. There wasn’t much we could do. Sachi came up with an idea that if we each sold something that was precious to us, it would be enough.” I blinked. What did he mean by ‘something that was precious?’
Sachi put my hand on her mouth so that I could feel her smile. “We each wanted to contribute something.” She said quietly before she guided my hand to the top of her head. I gasped.
“Sachi,” I whispered softly. “What happened to you hair?”
Sachi smiled. “I wanted to help too, so I cut it off and sold it. Besides, you needed the stick more than I needed my hair.” I was in shock as I ran my fingers through her now pixie-length hair. I stuttered.
“But you loved your hair… It was so pretty…” I uttered softly. She shrugged.
“I love you more.” she replied, grinning. I fell to my knees with tears in my eyes that were threatening to spill over and I hugged her tightly.
“Thank you.” I whispered. I could feel her lips stretch into an even widen grin as she wrapped her arms around my neck and hugged me back, pressing her small head into my shoulder. Oh, how I loved having a ‘little sister’ like her…
Kanaye cleared his throat slightly and I looked up towards the source of the noise. He snorted and said sarcastically, “What, no hugs for us?”
My eyes grew wide and I stuttered. “Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to-”
“It’s okay! I kid! I kid!” Kanaye assured me before chuckling slightly. I smiled slightly before tilting my head in curiosity.
“What did you do, Kanaye?” I asked, curious now that he had mentioned it.
He stammered. “L- look! It was nothing really! I mean, it was just a pair of goggles and my skateboard- It was nothing, honestly! I don’t even really use it!” I couldn’t understand why he was blushing, but there was enough heat radiating off of his face that I could tell it he was embarrassed to talk about it. I smiled sincerely at him. He gave up riding his skateboard to help me out. That was way more than nothing to me.
“Thank you for doing that, Kanaye. It means a lot to me.” I said softly. He blushed even more.
“N-no problem.” He stuttered. I laughed slightly and one of the other boys snickered. I glanced over at him and grinned slyly. “And what exactly did you do?” He was silent for a moment, stunned at being caught, but then he answered.
“I sold my father’s camera and his old reading glasses.” Haru stated. “You wouldn’t be able to see the pictures anyway, so it made sense to sell it.” He shrugged. “They got more money than I thought they would.” I gaped at him.
“But taking pictures is your life!”
He shrugged. “I can always get another camera.” He replied. I shook my head.
“But that was your father’s camera! You won’t be able to find another one like it!” He smiled.
“So be it.” he replied. I blinked and smiled in gratitude.
“Thank you...” He snorted, slightly amused at my emotional state, but shrugged. I smiled at him and then looked down at the floor. I opened my mouth to ask, but he beat me to it.
“Before you ask,” Zinan stated, running a hand through his hair, “I sold my mother’s locket. An old lady that works at one of the inns was asking for it before, but I told her it wasn’t for sale. She said she would pay me triple the face value, but I still turned her down. That was a few months ago. Since the situation demanded it, I just went back to her and she bought it. She’s been pestering me for a while, so it was almost a relief to give it to her. End of story. No need to thank me.”
I was silent, but I nodded, respecting his wishes. “Thank you anyway.” I said quietly before smiling. “Thank you all. Now can we go home? I’m starving!” They all laughed, the previous tension now gone as a sense of normalcy took its place. I pushed myself up and grabbed the stick out of my pocket, pressing the button on the end to make it longer. I glanced down at Sachi and grinned, squeezing her hand. She giggled and began pulling me forward, helping me to get used to the bar that was tight in my grasp.
When we finally got back to the hideaway, I was semi-used to having the staff-like thing, but I still needed plenty of practice before I got used to it. Kanaye celebrated for about a moment when he found that they had bought him a sleeping bag, because the next moment he was asleep in it, curled up in his usual spot. Zinan laughed. “Too bad no one told him we bought a cake…” Less than a second after Zinan said that, Kanaye was awake again and standing next to him with a hungry look in his eyes.
“Cake?!” he asked excitedly. Everyone laughed.
Before I knew it, happy birthday was being sung and I was being asked to blow out the candles. Holding my hand out in front of me to feel the heat of the candles and to have a general idea of where they were, I closed my eyes (even though it was unnecessary) and made a wish. It was the wish I wished for as long as I could remember.
I wish I could find out who he is.
I blew and the candles’ heat disappeared, telling me that they had gone out. The group cheered and I blushed slightly. Haru cut the cake and Kanaye gobbled it down greedily. I felt someone put a plate in my hand and place a fork in the other. Guiding the hand with the fork, they moved my hand and touched the tip of the fork on the cake before releasing both of my hands. I felt a slight gust of wind as the person plopped down next to me. I looked up at them. “Thank you, Zinan.” I said quietly. He just shrugged. There was no reason to talk as I ate beside him, thinking about my wish.
Zinan made the silence comfortable as we (more accurately he) watched Kanaye beg Haru to let him have another slice before turning to Sachi when he got denied and asking for some of her cake. I giggled slightly when I heard him groan when neither of the siblings would actually budge and give him some. I felt the ground vibrate as he flopped down onto the floor on his knees and literally groveled for another piece of cake, saying that he would absolutely die if he didn’t get one. I laughed when I heard Haru say to ‘get off of him’ and they began running around the room, Kanaye chasing Haru as Haru tried to protect the cake. I smiled at my family. I never wanted this to end.
...when I re-read this, I realized something.
This chapter is extremely cheesy.
Oh well, I can't do much about it now. Any questions, comments, or concerns, put them in that little box and press submit! If you want to go to my DA account and see some of my other work, click here.
KH: NJAN Chapter 1
This is a new fanfic I've been working on called Kingdom Hearts: Nobody's Just A Nobody (or just NJAN for short). I've also been posting this on my DA account here where you'll also find some of my other works. Yes, the first couple of chapters will seem like a ripoff from KH2, but, trust me, it is a different plot. Just watch and listen and you'll see what happens! NO I AM NOT A MARY SUE!!! I didn't make this character or this story so that she would be perfect and take away someone from the KH series. Sheesh. I hope you like it!
Chapter 1: Darkness
There was only darkness… A vortex of darkness… It swallowed all of the color from my surroundings… My memories… Red faded to grey and blue faded to black as my vision slowly disappeared... There was nothing I could do as faint images played in front of my eyes- blurs of grey and black meshing together as the images from my past slowly faded away… I tried to stretch out my arm to grab them, but my arm couldn’t move… My best friends were laughing and smiling as we sat atop that tower… Their faces became blurred… What were their names again? …Who was I talking about? …Oh, well… I don’t think it was that important … An image floated in my head of a boy… He had a blade… That shape seemed so familiar… Where had I seen him before?
Roxas…
For some reason that name popped into my head…Was that the boy’s name? …What was happening to me? …I was drowning- drowning in the unidentifiable blackness… I couldn’t move and yet I never stopped moving as I fell deeper into the darkness that was enveloping me in its thick embrace... I couldn’t see anything anymore- just the dark black that flooded my eyes… into my ears… clouding my eyes… muffling my scream as I tried to cry out… I couldn’t breathe… The darkness took my breath away…
“Nix.”
Was that a voice calling me?
“Nix, wake up.”
This voice… I think I’ve heard it before…
“Nix, come on. Wake up.”
“Are you sure she can hear you, Zinan?”
“Not really. I’m just trying to see how serious this episode is. Last time she didn’t wake up for nine days, even with Kanaye yelling in her ear every two minutes.”
“HEY! It’s not my fault that she sleeps like she’s in a coma!”
“Kanaye, she was in a coma.”
“…Oh.”
“What if we have to take her to the hospital? We can’t afford to get her any good treatment!”
“Calm down, Sachi. We’ll be able to figure this out.”
“But Haru! How can we possibly-”
“Guys, shut it! She’s waking up…”
Sighs of relief echoed around me as I moaned quietly and rubbed my eyes with my fist.
“Nix.” A high, girlish voice that was thick with worry stuttered to my right. “Are you alright?”
I couldn’t see her expression, but I nodded to stop her worrying, slowly getting up as two pairs of hands steadily lifted me to my feet. I sighed. “What happened?” I asked softly to no one in particular. Zinan was the first to answer.
“We were just trying to figure out how much munny we made today when you suddenly passed out.” He chuckled slightly before continuing. “You almost sent Sachi into a panic.”
A small ‘humph’ came from Sachi and the three older boys laughed. I rolled my eyes. “So are we going to go home or what?” I asked, interrupting their laughter. A slight happiness radiated from the four and I could tell they smiled.
“Sure. Let’s go. I was getting hungry anyways.” Kanaye replied, grunting slightly as his arms stretched above his head. Haru chuckled. “You’re always hungry!”
We laughed and set off, Zinan holding one hand and Sachi holding the other as they guided me down the path that led to our hideaway. You see, we were all orphans. Kanaye was a highly energetic, and extremely hungry, redhead whose parents had disappeared one night while he was sleeping. Sachi and Haru were two blonde siblings that were as close as could be, although they never talked about how they got separated from their family. Zinan was living on the streets before we met him. Myself… Well, let’s just say that I’ve never seen my family my entire life and I never will. Ever since we met each other, the gang and I have been inseparable. We’ve been living together in a small spare room in an inn that the innkeeper let us rent. In order to pay the rent though, we had to get munny. In order to earn munny, we had to work.
The only downside was that it was hard to do work when you are blind.
Now don’t get me wrong; I was fine at defending myself. I honed my senses to the point that I could tell where people were just by a shift in the air, but it wasn’t exactly a walk in the park to make deliveries when you couldn’t see where you’re going or read a map to find your destination. Seeing as I was definitely not strong enough to push trash up a hill, the only other option was entertaining passerbys. So I was stuck hitting a ball into the air repetitively. Not the most fun job in the world, in my opinion…
We reached our spare room and Kanaye let out a loud sigh of air, swooshing down and sitting promptly on a wooden crate that we used for furniture with a small grunt. He yawned, running a hand through his red (or so I’ve been told) hair. “Well, that wasn’t so bad.”
A twitch in the air so slight that it was almost unnoticeable, and the ominous sarcasm radiating off of him, told me that Zinan had rolled his eyes. “That is if you consider not earning any munny today as ‘not so bad.’”
Sachi tugged on one of the two blonde braids that hung off of the sides of her head before making them swish slightly as she pulled me down to the floor, sitting in my lap. “Stop it guys. You’re not helping us by fighting.”
“Zinan is right, though.” I said quietly. “Our rent is due the day after tomorrow when we get back from work and we don’t even have enough munny to pay half of the payment, let alone the whole thing.” I carefully undid Sachi’s braids, running her now-wavy hair through my fingers as I talked. “Even if we work overtime, we still wouldn’t be able to pay off the rent. We just don’t have enough munny or time.”
Haru muttered, “Well, if Kanaye would stop eating all of our food…”
“Hey! It’s not my fault I have a high metabolism! I need to eat in order to work…” Kanaye complained.
“Stop it you guys…” Zinan warned quietly, rolling out one of the sleeping bags on the floor in order to make it more comfortable to sleep on. I ran my hands through Sachi’s hair a few more times before tying a ribbon in a bow behind each of her ears and finally relinquishing her to her already sleeping older brother. Sachi got up from her position in my lap and padded over to where, I assume, her brother was propped up against a crate, already asleep. Kanaye slid off of the crate and onto the floor, snuggling between the wall and the spread sleeping bag. Zinan was in the middle, sleeping flat on his stomach again with his shoulder-length black hair strewn all over his face. I still sat in the corner, quietly listening to the sounds of the night around me. There was no light in our small little spare room except for the light of the moon that shone through the small window on the door (unless it was a new moon tonight, but I wouldn’t know that, now would I?). Slowly, I let myself curl into a ball and relax on the floor, still huddled in my little corner. If I wasn’t blind, maybe I would have noticed the pair of eyes watched me long after I was asleep and that were long gone before I awoke.
So did you like it? Hate it? Think it sucked? Tell me your opinion! Comment please!! So far it's basically about Nix's struggles as a blind girl in twilight town. Nix, Kanaye, Sachi, Haru, Zinan (c) by ME! Kingdom Hearts (c) by NOT ME!!!
And the person who was looking in the window... well... I'll let you figure that one out.
