Is there a way I can switch my challenge to fanart? I accidentally submitted it through wallpaper...

Question, how can you report people? A friend of mine just a pretty rude comment left on her portfolio and I think it's actually ticked me off more than her. I don't know if that's enough to get him/her banned, but I would still like to know how you report something.

Yes published works are fine. The main difference is if the author of the artbook asks for it to come down, which rarely happens, since it was published; it doesn't count against your account. I hope that clears it up for you.

What matters is it's published work vs something drawn and just hosted at say DA or another site like pivix. All you need to do is just link to where you got the scan. That makes it easier for us to verify where you got it should any questions come up.

Question! If I have a published artist with artbooks drawing a pictures of characters from another series, in this case; Shel drawing Sasuke & Sakura from Naruto in their own style would it still be allowed for a wallpaper or card?

This is a little different because I'm not entirely sure if it's qualified as a fan art or the artist's original work...

i've got a question. i'm 14 but when i put in my birthdate it says i have to be at least 13 to use theOtaku. i changed 1996 to 1995 and i was able to use the site but i'd much rather have my actual birthyear. please help!

It's not allowed. Fan art ends up on the site for a couple of reasons. One reason is there is literally millions and millions of fan arts posted on the web so no moderator can possibly recognize them all.

Another is after a while people will get auto approval so their submissions will go up with out any moderation approval required.

So what happens is not that they are overlooked but rather they are either unknown, haven't been reported or there isn't proof that it actually is fan art. Until we have actual proof we don't take things down.

As for using fan art, it can be used under one condition. If you have permission from the artist then you can use it. I hope that clears it up for you, if not just let me know. :)

I have a couple questions. In the rules for submitting wallpapers it says the following: 'Wallpapers can consist of modified screen shots (or official artwork / manga scans) or your own artwork, but cannot include the artwork of others. This is plagiarism.'

Now, I have seen more than a few wallpapers that contain what is obviously fan art. It just as obviously wasn't created by the creator of the wallpaper, because they'll say something along the lines of 'I saw this and just had to use it' or 'credit to the artists of the fan art'. Sometimes they will give links, sometimes not.

So, what I was wondering is - what exactly is this rule? And, are these wallpapers simply overlooked in the acceptance process or is fanwork allowed in wallpaper as long as you don't claim it as your own?

Any information is appreciated.

I would suggest making sure your wallpaper dimensions are correct and that the file isn't larger than 2 MB. In addition to that, wallpapers have to be in jpeg format.

Also, if you're submitting a wide screen wallpaper, you have to submit the standard size too. It's required or else the other won't go through.

Are we allowed to have more than one account? Like, a mule account? I didn't read anything like this in the terms of service.

question: why does my works disappear from my portfolio once I edit them. They also disappear from any searches, or the recently uploaded stuff. It is still there though, but just floating around... Should this be a bug report? Can't find where to go, though... sorry about that.

Finally! The wallpaper guidelines are up! So I guess people do listen. I'm pretty sure my next wallpaper falls in the guidelines I drew it myself, so it's not plagiarized right resolution and it has my name on it... WHy do I feel it's going to be rejected still? Oh yeah no swearing I agree with that I mean anybody can swear show you have a vocabulary.

The biggest thing we look for when approving or considering removing a submission is the overall level of effort. The type of quality we are looking for is some level of alteration while making sure you avoid obvious issues like pixilation or distorting images.

The idea is for beginners as well as those who have more skills (and also more expensive programs that let them do more) are all able to contribute to theOtaku. So we're pretty accepting when it comes to submissions in general.

Cut and paste can be allowed so long as it's more than just randomly tossing it into a wallpaper size, the key is whether or not any effort was made to make a background. Like adding effects or positioning it in a fun manner. If there is ever anything in doubt then report it since with auto approval things do slip in that don't really meet the guidelines.

Vectored images are usually crisper and cleaner in the colors and downloading the larger size shows that. Screen shots tend to look blurry and pixilated at the higher resolutions.

No. It is not possible. Fan art is visible to everyone, regardless if they are a member or not.

The fan art section is limited to one submission; however, the fan manga isn't necessarily limited to one submission. Why? Well, fan manga has a story to tell, and telling this story would entail multiple submission for one story (if the creator has multiple pages to submit). Some creators like to add one page at a time, thus drawing out the manga. Others prefer to add multiple pages of storyline, thus presenting a more completed product.

I could be wrong about the limits of submissions in each category, but I think it would make sense to not have a one-page limit on the fan manga, seeing that a story has to be told. With fan art, the principle goal is to limit it to only one piece of art, thus highlighting it, rather than having an artist's single submission be lost within multiple submissions by many other artists. The fan artist has more or less an equal chance to have their works seen, in a single submission criterion for fan art.

Well, that's handy! I'm glad some guidelines are back up, Adam! Oh, and I have a question... exactly how many art/manga are we allowed to submit!? I thought we were only allowed to do one, and I saw one person was able to submit more than one manga pages in one day...
