Well, it's not going to win any prizes for originality, but it's so damn good at what it does that it doesn't matter. It has this odd way of topping itself: just when you think you couldn't possibly like the characters any more than you already do, somehow they give you even more to love. It's a stunning achievement, especially for a (relatively conventional) romantic comedy series.
So yes, in other words, you have no choice. You must watch it.

Post more, you!
Agreed, agreed and agreed on Toradora!. Best series of the fall by a good distance, even in the face of the Gundam 00 and Clannad sequels. I'm continually amazed at how the series gets everything right and has not stopped getting better since ep1. If it keeps on this path, then the final episode will be out of this world outstanding.
EDIT: We'll also be watching Kurenai in Anime Club after we finish Zoku SZS, so I am now looking forward to seeing it more!

I slightly rejoice when you post, considering it's becoming a rare event nowadays!
Good lord, when I looked at the AnimeNfo's '08 list I hadn't a clue what most of them were about. However, I suspect in some years (months?) time I won't be the only one who doesn't have a clue what some of those anime are about. I've pretty much lost touch with most new anime, but I will have to keep Michiko to Hatchin in mind when I search for something fairly new to watch. I'll do some more research on it later, so thanks for mentioning it. See ya next time.

Gosh, sounds like I really need to watch Toradora. My fault for assuming it was more of the same old thing (but not in a good way).
