The next two deaths happened at the same time. I was glad…that at least they were not alone. Hime, Francis, Jenny and I were looking for a way out up in the attic. I remember…Francis pulling Jenny out of the way and being hurt, but the attack was too big and hit her as well.
“Je suis désolé, mon précieux Jenny…” Francis said, “I could not protect you…”
Francis reached out for Jenny’s hand. Jenny held it tightly.
“It’s not your fault, Francis…I was not fast enough…” she said.
“I could not protect Jeanne and I could not protect you…I am a failure…”
“No! No you’re not!” Jenny cried as she moved closer to Francis, tears rolling down her cheeks, “Hime, take Chero and run. Please…”
“No!” I cried, “You two will be ok! You can still make it out with us!”
“Miss Chero…Do you really believe that? My legs…they are broken…and I can barely breath…” Francis said.
“Chero…You need to get out…How can my favorite ship sail if it never leaves?” Jenny said.
Hime took my hand and led me out of the room.
Jenny squeezed Francis’ hand, “At least…we will die together…”
“Oui…Thank you…Miss Jenny…Jeanne d'Arc…watch over us lost souls as we come to meet you…”
I never saw Francis or heard Jenny’s laugh again…Hime sat with me for a few minutes as I mourned for my second “daughter” on top of losing Danni as well.
