Very carefully, I fit the ornate metal design onto the wood and wound it around it.
Once I made my final inspection, I dipped the bow into a barrell of cool water from the river nearby.
I grinned, satisfied, and then lifted the instrument from the hissing water.
Perfect in every way.
The body of the bow was made from the fallen branch of a cherry tree and the metal had been wrought from the finest in the mines.
Now, all that's left was the string.
I picked up the taught string from my table. It was metal and silk woven together.
As I fit the string in the notches at either end of the weapon, a red and black hawk swooped into my home and landed on the bedpost.
After I secured the string, I walked over to the bird which sat rather quietly.
I scooped up a dead mouse from a bucket and fed the bird.
Then I noticed the note tied around its leg.
As it feasted, I carefully removed the note and unrolled it.
It read:
Dear Xexilia,
I will not waste your time with pointless messages. It is a simple as this, Atalia is in danger, and we need your help. Please come and assist us in our quest to save Atalia. I will explain everything to you once you arrive.
Sincerely,
Your prince.
This must be about the Kenai.
Good thing I had chosen to be a loner. A village not quite far enough for comfort had been slaughtered the other day. Many elves, who were very difficultto kill, had died in the massacre.
My new bow and arrows would arm me perfectly though.
But still! To be called upon like some random servant girl!
"WHAT NERVE!" I shouted and lashed out at a metal bowl on the table, sending it flying out of the house.
The bird looked at me and said in it's on way, "But haven't you helped before? You're needed."
I glared angrily, "I don't do anything for free. NOTHING! The prince should know that by now..."
The hawk tilted its head, "Maybe he will?"
I plopped down on the floor and sighed, "Perhaps I'll go..but if there's no pay, I'm not doin squat!"
The majestic hawk bowed its head and flew out the window.
I muttered to myself all while I was packing.
"Why can't he get another Elf?!" as I shoved some loaves of bread and a canteen of water into a small pack, laong with a bit of clothes.
Then I went to my wall of assorted weapons and flicked a few knives and daggers of their hooks.
I even strapped a twin-set of leaf swords to my waist and gauntlets on my arms.
My last touch was the newly-made bow and arrows in their black adn silver quiver.
As I went to leave, I spotted an old circlet hanging by the door.
Shrugging, I grabbed it and fit on my head. It was a nice reminder of older days.
Then I leapt out a window and landed nimbly on my feet, at the bottom of the huge tree that was my home. (Well my home was inside of it^^')
I omitted a sweet whistle and a black mare with a white star on her head trotted up.
"We're needed," I told her adn climbed on her back.
It didn't take long to reach the castle gates.
Gracefully, I leapt off the mare and bid her farewell. I would call her if I needed.
I started laughing when I approached and saw two guards, face down in the road with poisoned needles sticking them.
Guards were so useless.
I stepped over them and let myself in the stone fortress.
When I came to the throne room, I took in the wide assortment of characters assembled.
A fairy, a Ninja-Witch, demons, humans, and an Incubus. Oh and the prince of course.
I smirked a little and called to the prince, "You've even invited mortals?"
The humans gave me a glare and the Prince just said, "Welcome!"
I dropped the grin and said, "I don't work for free. For anybody or any cause."

Oric lay complacently in a tree that provided just enough brush to conceal his black cat appearance from any onlooker who happened to look into the tree. In truth, the only way one could truly notice him was if they stood directly under the branch he was laying on and looked directly up. Even then, one would only notice the non-continuous swish of the cat’s tail. The smell of the evergreen that flustered into Oric’s senses was both wonderful and disgusting. Suddenly, the sound of brush moving caused the cat’s eyes to snap straight open. Raising his head slowly, the cat stared down at those that were walking under his tree. A mischievous Cheshire cat grin broke across Oric’s face as his eyes continued to follow the figures that were just passing.
It’s certainly been a while since someone has used this road….Oric thought to himself as he stared down at the dirt road that had become more or less rubble over the years. Maybe I should have some fun…. However, just in that moment, the same figure that had passed by just a few seconds prior had come back and was now standing directly under the tree.
Forming into his human form but continuing to lay on the branch, Oric looked down at the messenger who was looking back up at him with a fearful eye. Licking his lips, Oric half smiled at the man who only seemed to turn paler and take a step back. The man who didn’t seem to be willing to accept the idea that both man and demon were thinking at the same time shook his head even more.
“And you are, dear Human?” Oric asked after another lick of his lips. I haven’t eaten human in months….the demon thought to himself as he continued to stare down at the messenger. “How may I help you?”
“I…. the… The Prince has asked me to send you this letter!” the man shouted causing a sudden ringing to hit Oric’s ears.
A hiss escaped the angry demon, and in that moment, he glared down at the human and commenced with his own thoughts. M… heads… yes indeed… Out of human body parts… I love biting off heads first. And also with heads… I really don’t need any sort of salt or spice to go with it… Unlike the spleen or the liver…. Heads were easy to eat….
The man dropped a document and then turned and ran for the hills. Turning his head to watch the special, Oric let out a gleeful laugh. Swinging down from the branch with extreme agility, the demon reached down and took up the parchment in front of him. Reading the human writing, the demon nearly laughed to himself as the meaning became clear.
“The prince wants me? HAH!” Oric let out a sharp crackling laugh that silenced the birds who had only three seconds before racked up as much din as they could possibly make. Oric’s eyes moved back to his tree. “But I do go bored of all this long-lived nothingness….” With that, the demon’s face seemed to take on an almost pained look. “I will at least go see what he wants. Who knows.. I could have my own fun with this in time.” With that, the sudden Cheshire grin that had appeared in his cat from came into the face of Oric residing in his human form. Another sharp laugh broke into his throat as Oric breathed out. “Fun fun fun….”
With that, Oric turned and headed out towards the castle that was breaking out of the tree tops.

Sorry it's short, I'm kind of brain dead at the moment from so much posting everywhere I am.
~Kallik~
I walked through the blaring heat my eyes fixed on Yuki the entire time. He puled out that letter again. That letter had brought us here. I looked up at the castle we were going to "Man I hope they have air conditioning," I thought. Yuki looked back at me over his shoulder. I realized he must be worried about me. As an ice demon I had a very low tolerance for heat. We reached the gait and Yuki flashed the letter to the guards and they moved to let him in.
As I followed Yuki in the guards grabbed me. "Not you Missy," they said as they stopped me.
Yuki turned back. "She's with me," he sounded aggressive. I tensed, this could turn into a fight. If it came to that I know I'd have to pull Yuki off them. "I don't go anywhere without her at my side." He glared at them, "Yes sir," they said and let go of me almost at once. Yuki always looked frighting when he was mad.
As we moved on into the throne room I felt Yuki tense up. After I entered the room I saw why there were several others in the room. Yuki really didn't like other people.I looked at the prince to see why he'd wanted Yuki to come.

Okay Kallik didn't get a letter. She fallowed her friend Yuki instead.
