Yeah, I completely know what you feel about taking a step back in life. I felt like that after my mom passed and I was forced to move back in with my dad.
I wish I had more to say, but my brain is fried at the moment.
Notice every time Flint talks, we all always agree with him?
Moving back in with the parents is definitely the practical thing to do, and aside from the whole "step backwards" thing, it all just makes sense and deep down you know that this is just a temporary thing for now.
The Jordan stuff . . . . . maybe this'll all be an eye-opener for him. He almost went to New York as a means to get away from it all, and he couldn't do it. You, you'd be going not quite so far away for very good, very clear reasons. It'll give him some good things to think about, and, with a little luck, maybe it'll knock some sense into him. 'Cause I like the guy, I really do and I thought he was a pretty nifty fellow, but he's frustrating me.
'Sides, this'll all make for a great inspirational story. You could write it and make millions and then you'd be rich and half the troubles would melt away!

I totally agree with Flint, I really do think that it's the best option for you. Rather than being scared, think of it as something interesting and exciting. Maybe you'll get a better part time job and meet people there, maybe you can join some clubs that interest you at school or outside of school. You can meet people so easily in university/wherever if you just try. So definitely don't let that be what scares you the most. You're full of potential and you can do better than the job you're at now... so from that standpoint, you got nowhere to go but up =) we love you and we're rooting for you.
I couldn't say better than Flint, really. You aren't much older than me, sweetie and I am STILL living with my parents, and of course sometimes I DO want to have my own freedom which it will eventually happen soon but I'm rambling now, just think about that possibility.
Starting over is frightening, yes but not everyone has the possibility for a fresh new start. So who knows?
Whatever you choose, I'm always here for you, supporting you all the way.
I'm going to give you a gentle shove back to college. As always, take my moronic opinion with a grain of salt.
I was given the same proposition last year. I was working as management at a local grocery store, Fiesta Mart, and I absolutely hated my job. My mom took notice, and she told me she had an idea. She would help me pay for college if I moved back home and quit that horrible job.
I had a crisis. The thought of going back to college was exciting. I'd always wanted to be a teacher. At least there, I'd be working towards something I wanted to do with my life, and not something I just do for money. And, if that didn't pan out, at least I wouldn't be stuck at fucking Fiesta anymore.
Of course, I also thought I'd be making a great leap backward (Thanks, Chairman Mao!). I'd be moving back home, with my mother. Needless to say, picking up ladies would be infinitely tougher. I'd become financially dependent upon her again, something I hadn't done in seven years, since high school. Finally, the more I thought about, the more I thought my job wasn't so bad. I liked my coworkers. The customers were okay, even though the majority knew no English (this is southeast Texas, after all).
I ended up swallowing my pride, moving back with mommy, and going back to college. It was the best decision I've made. I feel like I'm actually accomplishing something with my life, and not just turning the wheels, stuck in the mud.

In short: Go. Just go.
