I guess she was trying, but that's one of the lamest cheer up lines ever. Who tries to cheer up someone else by reminding them of their own happiness? Or am I just emo like that?
On the one hand, the absolute best way I know of to deal with a really frustrating problem is to deal with it. Running from it, looking away from it, setting it aside and hoping it resolves itself without you; none of that typically helps, and you're right not to like doing such stuff.
On the other hand, brooding about something won't solve it, either. And the more time you spend looking at the issue and telling yourself how bad it is or how much it sucks or just being "ugh" in general is not only not getting you on the road to solving it and getting it the frick out of the way, but is further pulling you down because you're only focusing on the negative of what you can see.
You need the distraction to a better subject because you need time to clear your head and get back on your feet mentally. Once that's done, hopefully you can go back and look at the issue without all the extra baggage you had before and maybe come up with a way to kick its pathetic ass.

Maybe I'm a little strange in thinking that your friend's response of "think of my cute wedding photo" was a bit... off.
But yeah, uhh, pretty much what Alla said.

That's only partially true.
