Probably the most important thing anyone can realize is that society itself isn't perfect -- that the very standards by which we judge ourselves are often warped and harmful. Like, a lot of the painful blows to self-esteem described in that article stem from materialistic standards espoused everywhere that drown out the voices saying, "Hey, guys, materialism is pretty dumb, you know?" And don't get me started on the still-rigid standards of normalcy in our society ...

I think an important part of life is figuring out that you can't be perfect. You just can't. And as a society we should be encouraging that detail, not subjugating people to it.
Ugh, the stories in that article are just sad too... gosh.
