Detective Novel Chapter 8

“don’t tell me! She worked as an interior designer” Kalea grinned
“yeah, how’d you guess?” they both looked at her
“dunno I just remember reading about a lady called Catherine Orchard and she was a well known interior designer in fact I think I met her once she worked for one of my friends” she smiled “yeah she was a nice lady she seemed pretty happy and I don’t think she had any enemies” she frowned “I don’t get it… why are people being killed like this? The reporter was right this is recreational who ever is doing this is doing it for fun and that’s just sick and will not be forgiven we are going to find this murderer and make sure they are brought to justice” she sounded like a cop in a really cheesy detective book (not that she is)
After five more weeks of senseless killings Kalea, Satu and Nate still have no leads on who the killer might be “This is hopeless!” moaned Kalea in despair “honestly there's nothing connecting these people! Only the fact they’re families” she sighed “and I'm in a bad mood again” she got up and slumped down on the chair by the window, she liked to sit there quietly and think, also Nate and Satu knew to leave her alone when she was sat over there, she tended to get stressy if you disturbed her. She was sat over there for at least an hour before Satu walked over and knelt down in front of her “what are you thinking about?” he said tenderly, he looked at her eyes, they were dark almost black, she had a habit of shape-shifting parts of her to see if anyone noticed and eyes were a main culprit, she liked to make them go rainbow colours especially in public because it freaked people out. He had noticed her eyes going dark grey or black a lot recently, probably to match her mood, she didn’t like not being able to solve a case, her eyes flicked to his “marriage”
he raised an eyebrow “whys that?” he smiled trying to cheer her up a bit, she must be pretty depressed because her voice was completely monotonic and lifeless. She muttered something moodily under her breath that he couldn’t catch “isn't it supposed to be every girls dream to have a big white wedding full of frills and cake?” he was surprised
“I never had you down as someone who’s into marriage” he grinned again
“I'm not I don’t really see the point but it would still be nice to have someone to call your own, don’t you think? Its like, no one even does it for the vows anymore its all because the men want to put their stamp on the woman and the woman wants to be owned, plus she gets to dress up like a giant frilly fairy and eat cake” she sighed “weddings don’t really have a point anymore, most people just end up divorced after a year or two, humans are evolved from apes right? Well think about the apes, the alpha male mates with all the women in the pack, he doesn’t stay loyal to one like a magpie does with his mate, so humans are made with that instinct. Its all about breeding with a many people as you can before you die, spreading you spawn” she looked slightly amused at the word spawn “frogspawn” she muttered with a smile, he hated to admit it but she seemed to be going a bit loopy. “you know I never thought of weddings like that” he smiled, well if the word frogspawn cheered her up then he had no arguments, as long and she wasn’t ripping their throats out he was happy. Kalea rarely left her chair for the next week or so until late afternoon on a rainy Wednesday she got up out of her chair and went over and hugged both Satu and Nate “I'm sorry, I’ve been so moody recently” she looked genuinely sorry
“its ok, this case is actually really hard, I’ve checked the information and the murderer hadn’t left any clue to their identity not even a hair” Nate was too kind to her “no, its not that, its, never mind its nothing big, I don’t normally get that moody, I don’t know what came over me” her eyes were the nice light grey that they should be “well I'm just happy to have you back” grinned Satu “well I'm going out for a bit I suppose, just a walk to somewhere, maybe ill find our murderer on my way” she sighed, she had been sighing a lot recently “oh by the way while I was sat at the window how many people were killed? I was sat there for about a week I want to know how often this person kills” she frowned it would make it easier to find out how the murderer worked if she knew when and how often they killed “well in the past week so from last Wednesday” Nate went to the computer and started tapping away again, he was getting the hang of the computers anyway, “ok since last Wednesday well one family was killed on that day, the next killing wasn’t until the weekend when two families were killed one on Saturday and one on Sunday then the last killing was yesterday, all the killings happened at night from anytime after dark really until anytime before light, another words the person likes to hide in the dark and creep up on their victims” he looked up at Kalea she had an interested look on her face “but hang on you don’t make sense, the killings happened when people would be asleep so why were all the victims out of their beds? We have proof they weren’t killed in bed and then moved so maybe they were moved then killed but you might ask why? But I have the answer to that as well” she had a glint her eye all her determination had come back “our recreational killer wants the victims to know that they’re being killed they enjoy it” her lip curled “that’s so sick” she muttered “ok so no weapons left behind?” she asked
