Your paragraph about your creative writing class brought back memories. I took one of those, and I was one of the few people in the class who wasn't a goof-off.
One guy made a stupid doodle instead of writing a poem. This obnoxious girl wrote a poem about cigarettes "reliefing your stress", and also plagiarized a Lenny Kravitz song. One girl wrote a poem in which she wanted to rhyme a word with "claws" so she randomly picked the word "saws" and used in completely out-of-context ("the book resting upon my saws"). Another girl wrote a poem called "The Velocity of Attrition" which I couldn't make heads or tails of because she used too many enormous words that I didn't recognize. And that was only the first quarter.
In the second quarter you wouldn't believe how many "and then he/she/I woke up" stories I had to peer-read. Then there was the infamous story, "Trent Is Such a ****" which one guy read in full without censoring. It was awesomely bad. And it got first place in the school's literary magazine, most likely because his friend was one of the editors.
If that's not enough, on the second to last day of class, I learned that one of the students got expelled for smoking weed on school grounds.
Ah, memories.
You know, typing all that out felt very therapeutic.
Call it karma. Call it luck. Me, I just don't give a... BOUNCE!
