Here's a treat for you, this is the first game I ever bought.
Released in 1992, Tiny Toon Adventures Babs Big Break is part of a surprisingly high number of games from the Tiny Toons franchise. You play Buster, Plucky and Hamton as you battle to save the theatre so Babs can be a star.
Despite being in the title, Babs is not playable.
Pros
Fits in most of the cast.
Has some decent mini games.
Character switch is a nice touch.
Cons
Supposed to be Babs game yet she's not playable.
Easily get caught in a deadend if you don't know where to find helper characters.
Verdict
Won't be the last game I cover from the franchise.
With this title, most people forget it was part of the franchise, still trying to figure out why.
Obviously released in 2001, Daytona USA 2001 was the first in the franchise to be specifically designed for console release. Featuring 8 tracks, secret cars along with circuit configurations for reverse and mirrored, it's the most complete version of the game to date.
Sega accidentally killed the online servers for this game through poor coding.
Pros
Plenty of content, more than any other Daytona title.
Music is still amazing.
More than enough cars to cater to every playstyle.
Cons
Most if not all players will still drive Hornet even if other cars are faster.
The botched online mode means that online multiplayer is non existent.
Verdict
I love this game but then again I'm a sucker for arcade racers.
Going a little off schedule but it's nothing major.
Released in 1988, RC Pro-AM is Rare's first attempt at a racing game; you are competing in the RC Pro-AM for Remote Control cars and the object of the game is to avoid last place all the while picking up upgrades and power ups, it's also one of the earliest racing games to use weapons.
The planned N64 version became Diddy Kong Racing
Pros
Makes full use of the NES hardware limits
Hugely innovative for future racing games
Was the main reason Nintendo partnered with Rare
Cons
No multiplayer
Tracks lose appeal after a while
Higher levels have unfair AI
Verdict
It's place in gaming history was more showing Nintendo what Rare was capable of rather than the game being really good. It's at least capable enough to keep you entertained.
Today's subject is another reminder of how mad Sega can get.
Released originally as an arcade title in 1998 before going to the Dreamcast, Dynamite Cop is an insane 3D beat em up that sees you control one of 3 special forces soldiers to free a hijacked cruise liner from pirates by any means necessary meaning that any weapon including missiles is game.
Is actually a sequel to Die Hard Arcade but became a franchise of Sega's own making when the license ran out.
Pros
Still the best arcade traditional beat em up in 3D.
Sheer insanity gameplay.
Not restricted playing the same route.
Cons
Graphics worse than I remember.
Criminally short averaging between 30-40 minutes.
Nightmarish graphic glitches.
Verdict
For all the fun it does offer it's the least graphically appealing game on the Dreamcast.
There have been games that question morality, here's one that did it first.
Released in 1993, Cannon Fodder is a top down tactical shooter built on the same engine as Sensible Soccer. You sortie with a small selection of troops and battle through missions. Although the tagline is "War has never been so much fun" all your troops can perma death on one shot and as the replacement troops line up for battle you will see the graves of the fallen on the hill, it even goes through a memorial each time you lose troops on a mission. You will feel how bad war is with the dark and twisted humour.
The opening uses Reggae style music
Pros
Quite a deep strategy game.
Genuinely makes war look bad.
A lot of missions for your money.
Good music.
Cons
Some ports are dreadful.
The controls are nothing but point and click.
Very hard game to finish.
Verdict
It's pretty difficult but the experience is well worth it, just try playing Call of Duty after a long session of this and you'll start feeling awful.
