Updated with video
10. Bentley Jones:- Cruel Angels Thesis from Neon Genesis Evangelion
I put him quite low on the list as he covers it in it's original language but points for his quote "this is how we do it in the UK!"
9. TeamFourStar:- Spirit vs Spirit from Dragonballz
For their most recent season finale they covered the song played over Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 scene and it is way more intense than the original.
8. Erika Harlacher:- Masayume Chasing from Fairy Tail
This is a fun one to sing along to and the English lyrics work wonders.
7. Kelly Mahoney:- Papermoon from Soul Eater
Another good track nothing else to say.
6. Natewantstobattle:- Sorairo Days from Gurren Lagann
Nate does this song justice even if it's meant for female vocals. He also does a good Blue Exorcist as well.
5. Sapphire and Friends:- Hikaru Nara from Your Lie in April
This cover is better than the original and each part is sang so well.
4. Caleb Hyles:- Haruka Kanata from Naruto
He sings this in both English and Japanese what a legend. Does a decent Yuri on Ice as well.
3. Lee & Lie feat. Natewantstobattle:- Strike Back from Fairy Tail
Nate back again this time with Lee & Lie and this guy can rap well. Lee & Lie has probably covered the most anime songs in English.
2. Y.Chang:- Flyers from Death Parade
This one is spot on, you'll be convinced that it's the original singer speaking English.
1. Jonathan Young:- The Hero from One Punch Man
He made this song his that's the huge difference between him and the other entries on this list, he's also covered the Pokemon theme song with the original singer, that's awesome.
Considering that I named a blog Video Game and Music Lounge, there's very little music. Lets change that with the top 10 most bizarre animated music videos. Rules are that the music video must not come from an existing animated franchise or be simply a music video for a film or borrow from an animated series, so no Daft Punk.
Honorable Mentions
Vocaloid and Gorillaz: Both of these have their own seperate lists
Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel: - Iconic more than bizarre
Opposites Attract by Paula Abdul: - Features MC Skat Kat but little too much live action to count.
Yellow Submarine by The Beatles: - Since it became a movie in it's own right it's disqualified from this list.
We're Going to Ibiza by The Vengaboys: - Despite the overly exaggerated body types this doesn't seem that weird.
Object of my desire by Dana Rayne: - I found this recently and it's about a crazy boy obsessed blue haired girl, it's surprisingly catchy.
10. Take On Me by A-Ha
This features a comic book come to life as the heroine is dragged into the comic by the lead character who is a 50s style street racer, low on the list as it's less weird more pleasant romance.
9. Heroes by Mans Zelmerlow
The 2015 winner of the Eurovision Song Contest painted a picture of stick figure school children painted on stage through fancy light work, it was unique, made a great story and was a worthy winner but not nearly as bizarre as the other entries.
8. JCB Song by Nizlopi
A music video told through kids drawings about Mr T, Bruce Lee, Transformers and the singer's father's JCB Digger. It's a nice little folk song that makes the world feel alot better.
7. The Wall by Pink Floyd
The image of the marching hammers sticks with many a music video fan in the same vain as Michael Jackson's Thriller or the previously mentioned Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel.
6. Fly On The Wings Of Love by XTM Presents Annia
A guy late for his girlfriend's party imagines his BMX is a motorcycle. Girlfriend plays tune while he waits only to attract the weird locals including rappers, fighting toddlers and hooded people who are actually speakers, this is only number 6 by the way.
5. Blue by Eiffel 65
Blue Aliens abduct the lead singer so it's up to the other band members to free him yet they put on a concert for the aliens anyway, I'm amazed this was one of the best songs of 1999.
4. Sweet Like Chocolate by Shanks & Bigfoot
Human in a chocolate world, not really much else to say really although the human chocolate people are arguing for some reason, least that's the impression I get.
3. Money For Nothing by Dire Straits
If you think Animated Music Video, then chances are you've probably seen this video as it's the one that most frequently pops up in conversation. Using rather primitive computer animation and very blocky graphics features two removal men as they clear out a home of it's furniture while the band are singing on a very early MTV channel.
2. Zorba's Dance by LCD
This one needs a youtube video to be believed,
LCD stands for Large Cool Dudes featuring a computer animated band of obese people named Ed, Zed, Ted and Ned. They even have chipmunk voices. I do own this single and I still got it and I have to ask my past self what possessed him to buy this single in the first place.
1. Viva Forever by Spice Girls
While the song itself is somewhat beautiful yet strangely melancholy, it stands as one of the most bizarre of moments in music videos. The Spice Girls are portrayed as animated fairies in a rather strange and slasher like manner as their grins and body shapes give that impression of impending doom but it doesn't end there, the poor teenager that gets seduced by the fairies ends up being spirited away in a Rubik Cube leaving his poor friend to try and work out what just happened so he puts the cube in a capsule and throws it into a capsule dispenser. Yep it's that kind of weird, unexplained, It stands as the most bizarre of Music Videos to ever feature animation.
Welcome to the first episode of a new series called Magic Moments, this will be spread across medias with video game moments here and anime and cartoons on Retro Retrospective.
The format will be four moments per episode showcasing a moment relating to the theme, so we start with cooking.
El Fuerte's Super Dynamic Cooking Time!!!
Whether you consider El Fuerte's special form of cooking to be good or bad is in the eyes of the many Street Fighters he feeds after defeating them; while not a popular character to select you can't help but feel good when you see his famous chant Super Dynamic Cooking Time!!! Which would get you pumped to make a nice chilli.
Cooking Mama Will Fix It For You
Nintendo has a way of helping you out in the basics and Cooking Mama was a unique way of doing that using the Nintendo DS' features to learn chopping, mixing and not over cooking, not good if you have a faulty touchscreen but watching Angry Mama more than makes up for it.
Cheap Cheap The Cooking Chicken's Rap
PaRappa the Rapper is one oddball of a game but I think the best way to describe this one is with youtube.
You know if other cooking programs did this it might give rapping more credit.
Cook Kirby's Hot Pot
Before Kirby traded his hot pot for a giant sword, he used to cook up his opponents in Smash Bros Brawl, this was taken from his main series games where he takes all his enemies and turns them into food, although considering this puff ball eats anything and everything it makes me wonder if he really has taste buds at all.
And of course a worst list is needed to balance things out, let me know if there are other fighting franchises you would like me to cover.
Dishonorable Mentions
Balrog: A boxing character that looks like Mike Tyson, whoop di doo. At least Dudley had class, Balrog is just lazy.
Twelve: It's stupidly difficult to use but thankfully so forgetful that it doesn't matter.
Deejay: Forgettable that's it really.
Sean: Ken picked the most obnoxious kid to be his successor, I'd have thought you'd have more standards Capcom.
Sakura: I don't hate her enough to be on this list but I still don't like her.
Street Fighter Ex Characters are not included because they are simply bland and nothing else the others I have legitimate criticisms for.
10. Birdie and Abigail
Very ugly design for what was Britain's first Street Fighter, I feel a little insulted by this, and a name like Birdie is just stupid. Sadly Canada got it just as bad as their fighter is an 8ft tall behemoth who makes brum brum noises.
9. Adon
A poor screechy version of Sagat, he's an insult to the Muay Thai giant's art.
8. Decapre
I expected better of Street Fighter when they started introducing new characters for the fourth installment's Ultra expansion and all we got was a clone of Cammy, but ranked lower for at least having a unique fighting style.
7. Seth
Cheap boss is cheap, cheap boss broke my controllers along with many others, cheap boss nearly ruined the franchise.
6. Abel
I am a man with amnesia, who am I? What do I have to do with Shadoloo? Who the **** cares? Abel is boring and not worth the paper he's written on, pity as his fighting style is creative.
5. Remy
Remy is an emo that has no connection to any story whatsoever, seriously who thought it was a good idea to have this character in the story, he is useless, he doesn't even play well and it makes no sense for him to even be French, he's like a bad Street Fighter Ex character.
4. F.A.N.G
He looks stupid, granted all the Street Fighter 5 characters look strange, I think after Hakan the franchise took a turn for the strange and F.A.N.G is the worst of the batch.
3. Ryu
For one of the most iconic fighters in all video games, Ryu is boring, a never ending path of strength while fighting the urge to succumb to a growing urge to kill everything in sight doesn't make for an exciting character yet he's in everything including Smash Brothers where he sticks out like a sore thumb. I rate Street Fighter's characters for having charm but the lead character is crap.
2. Rainbow Mika
I feel she was created to satisfy a fetish and not the best kind either, Rainbow Mika is uncomfortable to watch and doesn't even play well as a fighter, yet she was chosen to come back to the franchise for the new game, a decision no one asked for.
1. Rufus
If Rainbow Mika was uncomfortable, Rufus is nauseating. A fat man with jiggle physics with an outfit more revealing than it should be and a personality that's jerkass at best annoying at worst, he doesn't really need to exist in the story and there are plenty of more capable candidates to be Ken's rival.
I did a Tekken character list so lets follow up with the Street Fighter Version, same principals as the Tekken list, this is based more on characters I control best as well as rate highly as a character.
Honorable Mentions
Yang: A character I control very well but somewhat forgettable
M Bison: Just for the Raul Julia performance alone he gets an honorable mention
Cammy: While I do control her very well, I don't rate her story
Chun Li: Miss Muscle Legs is the first female of fighting games but there have been better ones since
Crimson Viper: For all the super powered fighters in the series having a tech expert is quite surprising but her actual look is ridiculous
10. Dan Hibiki
Billed as a joke he's actually quite a decent character to use in the right hands and its entertaining to watch how much he tries to achieve so much.
9. Thunder Hawk
I'm leaning once again towards the big wrestlers and Thunder Hawk was a beast with some of his throws, kind of wish he had more presence in the franchise.
8, Makoto
Karate isn't very well represented in this franchise and Makoto more than makes up for it. If you ever play fighting games and want to have a feeling of an attack that really hurts then give Makoto's specials a try.
7. Cody
A Final Fight character first, Cody arrives in Street Fighter as a prisoner having spent so long street fighting (in the streetwise sense) and generally causing more problems than Mad Gear ever did, what makes his story more eye opening is that despite his power to break out of prison he actively returns without being persuaded or captured.
6. E. Honda
Between this character, Dhalsim and Blanka I had to go with the thousand slap sumo wrestler, a personal favorite from my youth and still a well rounded character today.
5. Hugo
The giant wrestler is by far my best character to date, of my online victories in Ultra Street Fighter IV, Hugo has taken the most and the only character I've used to ever rank higher than default, this is where my grapple character skills come from.
4. Vega
A rather unique character, the Spanish claw fighter has always maintained a feeling of fighting a proper trained killer and has the personality to match and is often involved in the best fight scenes having fought Chun Li and Ken in two different anime.
3. Ken Masters
If I didn't put one of the two main characters on this list I think people would complain but thankfully I actually like Ken's story more than many of the other cast members and seeing him go from Ryu's rival to family man and eventually training a successor is worth watching.
2. Sagat
It pays to be intimidating and Sagat is a monster. A towering figure of power that served as the very first game's final boss and started a successful franchise which began with his defeat to Ryu.
1. Ibuki
But my favorite character has to be the plucky ninja girl Ibuki, like Karate, ninjutsu was missing from the Street Fighter list but thankfully when she came in she was an instant hit and pulling Rasengan's before Naruto made it cool. She's also one of my best three characters alongside Hugo and Sagat.
