oh also -- always fill your background colours first, because that helps you pick colours for everything else after! ^^
and when you shade, you don't necessarily have to use the same set of colours.the first skin colour was white reddish-yellow. the second skin shade is light pink-red, and the third skin shade is light orange-red. :p play around with colours and see what works best~ ^^ the theme of this piece is "summer", so the skin tones stay peachy. but, depending on the mood, purple, blue, or green are also nice to add to skin tones! xD
just took a look at your pics.. the colours you choose are very bright, and pretty much the exact shade of primary/complimentary colours. my palette is much more dulled.. when i pick colours they're usually closer to grey? for example, in this pic look at the base colours for clothes -- they're not bright at all! haha~ but the base colours stand out after shading is added~ highlights help bring out the base colour too like in the hair. :)
also -- i use overlay a lot because it helps harmonize the colours and brighten things up! it's a lazy way of making sure the colours all look good together if your original palette isn't working out well xD what you do is add a new layer on top of everything, set it to "overlay", and fill/gradient the layer. :) i generally prefer to use yellow-orange, orange-blue, or pink-blue. adjust the opacity of the layer as you see fit. ^^

I MUST ask you this: how do you make your color palates look so natural? My digital art always comes out too computer-y looking. I'd LOVE some tips.
