yeah, me too.
m, yeah, most of that stuff is cheap[ly made, not in price], but some of it i like. ech, art class is full of dumb technicalities anyway [i miss it]. but yeah, mod stuff is starting to cross the line between art [as in a skilled action] and crap [as in something kinda cool if you close one eye and squint the other].
...i just realized i left an "as" out of my earlier comment reply, that bugs me. sorry for the bad grammar, way too easy to do online >_>.
ah. i see. well, it's a real shame when you can no longer enjoy your art, especially if other people still do enjoy it. i hope you can regain your passion for it.
eh, by modern art i meant reeeally modern art, lol. i respect monet and i like a lot of his work. what i don't like to see is people being praised for their depth and creativity when they spray-paint a big hunk of metal black and sell it for a million bucks.
class grade? no way, i finished our entire curriculum for the year weeks ago. i'm just waiting for the teacher to make up the final exam so i can finish the class for good.
What makes me happy... Being loved... Making others happy... Music... Those days when you walk outside, smell the air, and just feel calm, like things are right... God...Laughing...Feeling useful...
you have a good point[s], but i wasn't really talking about art a whole, just art for me. i didn't quit, but right now art isn't so much of a passion as it is a way to keep sane. it just comes out in blurts of angry creativity every once in a while, my sketchbook is not a happy place, and thus i havent posted for quite sometime- hence "art died young". On the subject of mod art- even Monet had his impressionist days. Thanks, it's what i aim for most days [2nd Renaissance, anyone?].
nono- it's nice to get real feedback every once in a while, though i don't know if it's the best idea to risk a class grade over it.
well, art doesn't seem so much dead as hibernating- it's true, it does seem like there's a LOT more crappy art around than in the "good old days" (if we're talking about way back like the Renaissance) but i bet the only reason it really seems that way is because: 1.) nowadays more people can afford/access art materials and 2.) there's the good ol' internet for everyone who thinks they can be a writer or an artist to torment faraway people with their colossal crap. it does take a lot of sifting to find original, uncliched, talented artwork. and "modern art"-what is up with that? modern art is a way for lazy people with spray paint and lots of huge sheets of useless metal on their hands to make money, and a way for rich people who think they "understand" the "depth" of it to feel special. and throw their money away. i feel depressed about the direction art is taking too. but there's some things that relieve the pessimism for me sometimes. your work for example is pretty thoughtful and original, in my opinion. it certainly makes a wonderful change from wobbly traced naruto fanart :P
(tell me if i'm annoying, babbling on like that- your topics are interesting to me, and more worthwhile than sitting in computer class doing nothing.)
hey~
I don't have one, not that i'm living in a black hole or something, it's just that i've found out nothing satisfies anymore. that's why i asked, but no one's giving me much to reflect on here, save the Shadows person [no offense, art died young though it has many reincarnations].
that's what i thought. read. don't see every half-personal question as a chance to exploit your circumstances to get attention or advise, it's becoming to common to be entertaining anymore.
it's true people aren't perfect, but you don't have to find perfection to be happy. and the happiness that comes from those "perfect" moments in nature or things like that.. is also very fleeting. my happiness mostly comes from one other person, and i don't agree that it's an imperfect or manufactured happiness. being in love for real isn't a fleeting happiness; it keeps going and stays with you even when you don't notice it. i would say one of the things that makes me happy the most is when i spend a long time concentrating hard on something, and then i stop concentrating, and remember i am loved. call me selfish, but that's how it is. i guess being happy for any reason, in and of itself, is a form of selfishness.
What really makes me happy... I'd say the moments when everything is at ease. Like for example when it's rained the night before and the sun is coming up and reflecting off all the collected water--and the smell of the air. Those are the moments when there isn't a doubt in my mind that there is a God. And He made this world. I get the feeling that's how He intended it to be. Just simple--nothing to distract you, no cell-phones, no car alarms, no angry people shouting things--it's just warm...and calm.
Hiya, Sarah-chan! I finally remembered Otaku was alive. Kinda. XD
As for me, the thing that makes me deep-down, warm-n-fuzzy happy is looking down on one of my drawings that I know I've given my all and thinking to myself "I put everything into this and it really does look good." In short, accomplishing things to a higher level than was needed. ^_^ But mostly my art.
