I'm glad to hear you're doing okay, Aniki. And, I say go with hat your heart says. Mei may say that she's fine with what you do, but there's always a part of her that doesn't like it one bit. Her dad (you) is putting his life on the line. No child would be happy to think that their dad may just die one day. But, she probably hides what she feels because you may quit because of her wishes. Don't go by off what i'm saying. She may not feel this way, but there's a chance. Just do what you want to do, kay?
