Chapter 2: Some Competition
-Kentin-
I was so happy to see her again. Rain has change so seems to be more of a social butterfly now from when we were kids and since I left two years ago. Back then I hated leaving, but I knew in my heart if I wanted her to notice me more as someone who she would date and less of just her childhood nerdy friend I would have to listen to my father and do to military. Also wanted to be able to protect her. I hated how she was always protecting me because I was too weak to protect her. Not any more. I’ve grown and become 160 lbs of all muscle and 5’11 I know that I can protect her now.
She seemed so happy that I was back but…why did didn’t she ever send me letters like we promised we would when I left? I know that I was sending her letters. Well I was sending them to dad to be able to give to dad. But she had to do the same thing…I wonder if she sent me anything and dad just didn’t send it to me. If that’s true then where did my dad put her letters and why didn’t he want me to get them?
I shook my head I can’t think about that now. I’ll have to ask her about it after school today. For now I’ll just have to wait till lunch to see her again. The first four periods of the day seemed to go by in a blur. It was so different being back in normal classes. There were no sergeants screaming at you for doing something wrong. I didn’t realize how much I actually missed having things be so quiet with the occasional whisper back and forth to each other. Most of the whispers today seemed to be about me and they were wondering who I was.
I couldn’t get out of there and start heading to the cafeteria soon enough. “Kentin!” I turned to see Rain running up to me happily.
“Hey Rain I was about to head to the Cafeteria. Did you want to join me?” I asked with a bit of a smirk spreading across my lips.
“Of course. I also want you to be able to meet all my friends.” She smiled up at me.
She’s matured so much. She has beautiful curves that were just right to for her body. I smiled sweetly at her and I could feel my muscles in my face relax as I looked down at her.
“RAIIIIN.” I was snapped out of my thoughts and looked up to see a boy with blue hair run up and cling to Rain, which I felt my heart sting with jealously. “Rain save me.” He cried.
“Alexy what did you do this time?” She giggled.
“Alexy took my PSP from me.” A boy that looked exactly like Alexy only with black hair came up us.
“Alexy give it back.” Rain said.
“But he was going to just stay in the classroom instead of coming to lunch I had to do something and I made sure that he saved before I took it.” Alexy mentioned.
“Come on Alexy give it back, Rain won’t be able to save you this time.” Amrin said and the next thing I knew Rain was being sandwhich between the two boys as she was trying to keep them from fighting.
“That’s enough you two.” I shouted making them stop. “You’re going to hurt Rain if you two keep it up.” I said glaring at the two of them.
“Well hello handsome.” The One with blue hair smirked at me and was checking me out.
“Who’s this Rain?” Amrin asked as he took the chance that Alexy was distracted to grab his PSP.
“Hey, that’s not fair I was distracted.” Alexy pouted.
Rain stepped out from between the two boys. “Alexy, Amrin this is my childhood best friend Kentin.” She smiled and wrapped her arm around mine. I could see the sting of jealousy in Amrin’s face when she did that, which made me feel good in side.
“What is all this commotion about?” I turned to see a guy that was dressed in Victorian styled clothing walk up to all of us. He has silver hair that faded to green on the left side and mismatched eyes that were amber and green.
“Lysander I was just introducing Alexy and Amrin to Kentin.” She smiled with a bit of a blush on her face. Did she like this kid?
A shocked expression came up over his face and then it subsided quickly. “So this is your childhood friend that you’ve told me so much about? He doesn’t look at all like you described him.” He smiled a little.
“One of the good things that Military school did.” Rain smiled and I felt my heart skip a beat as I tried to hold down a blush.
“Why don’t we all head to lunch, Rosalya and Violette as waiting for everyone at our usual table.” Lysander stated with a small smile.
“Come on Kentin, Rosa and Violet have been dying to meet you.” Rain smiled up and me taking my wrist in her hand and pulling me along.
I was so happy to her again and when I caught the expressions of Lysander and Amrin it made me feel proud of coming back. “Hey Rain…can I ask you something?” I asked wanting to get it out. I couldn’t wait to ask this question till school was over.
We stopped running and she turned to look up at me with her usual smile. “Sure what is it?”
“Do you remember the day that I left? You kissed my cheek, do you still feel that way about me?” I questioned.
She looked down at the ground and that made my heart drop, “You promised that you would write. I kept writing you hoping that you would respond but I never got anything back…and after I tried to send you a gift your father blew up on me and told me you hated me…Lysander and Amrin helped me through it…and now…I don’t know what to think…” She answered and I could hear the quiver in her voice.
Why would dad do that? He knew how much I loved her…she never got any of my letters and I never got hers…I thought that she was mad at me for going to military school is why I wasn’t getting anything from her. “Rain…I’m so sorry…” She cut me off and looked up at me and smiled with tears streaming down her cheek.
“No it’s okay, really…the thing is I kind of like Lysander and Amrin now too. It’s just complicated. I’m not too sure what to do to be honest.” She said and I wiped away her tears.
That made my heart drop even further, I’ve caused her pain and now I was being pushed out of her heart because of what my father did. “I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to make you cry.” I said quietly.
“I-I just need to think is all.” She kept her smile, “I promise I’ll be alright. Lets go.” I could tell that she was still sad.
What do I do? I have to find those letters. I want to protect her but I’ve hurt her so much. Physical pain is bad but what my father did to us was worse then any physical pain that could ever be handed out. I’m losing her to those two and now I have to win her back. I have to prove to her that I have change but that I still love her. After two years of being away I have to prove that I can protect her for her fears and from those who will hurt her…but that’s one thing I was never taught in military school.
“You’ll have to give me your number so that we can text.” Rain said in her usual cheerful voice.
“Yea we’ll have to do that.” I smiled sadly as I looked at the back of her head and she dragged me into the cafeteria.
