Chapter 5: A Stuttering Fool
I sat on the swing to the far end of the swing set on the playground in the pouring rain. “That was so stupid of me to run away.” I muttered to myself as I rocked back and forth on the swing.
I was soaking wet and I was starting to get cold. I just didn’t want to choose on the spot like that. I was so excited that Ken asked me to walk home with him that I completely forgot that Amrin and Alexy said that I could ride with them if it was raining today.
“I found you…” I looked up to see a soaking wet Ken breathing a bit heavy because of all his clothes being soaked through.
“Kentin…” I said shocked to see him.
He smiled at me and walked over to me. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to upset you. I didn’t know that you were going to get a ride from Amrin and Alexy I wouldn’t have asked for you to walk home with me.” He apologized and held out his hand for me to take.
I stood up and hugged him. “No I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have run away. I made everyone worry.” I said with my head against his chest.
I could hear his heart beat it was a bit quick, but I think it was probably because he was running around looking for me. What shocked me was that he hugged me back.
“Why don’t we get you home I’m sure that everyone is worried about you.” He said and I looked up to him smiling softly down at me.
“Alright, thank you Kentin.” I nodded and let go of him and stepped back.
He opened up his umbrella, “Not that it will really help us much but it keeps us from getting any more wet then we already are.” He stated which made me giggled and got under the umbrella with him and wrapped my arm around his and we started walking out of the park and to my apartment.
“I did write you letters while I was at military school. It turns out my father never sent my letters to you and he never sent your letters to me. I’m planning on finding where he put them so that you have read them.” Kentin said and my heart skipped. He really was trying to communicate with me while he was gone. Just why would his dad do this to us. He knows how close we were. But…I don’t understand just how does Ken feel about me? But I can’t jump to conclusions…if I do I’ll probably get my heart broken with him not feeling the same way that I do.
We got to my apartment and when we walked in everyone was they’re waiting for us.
“I’m so happy your safe. I would hug you if you weren’t soaking wet.” Alexy mentioned.
Lysander sighed in relief and smiled at me. “You should run off like that. Especially when it’s pouring out.” He mentioned.
“I know, I’m sorry I made everyone worry.” I apologized looking around at everyone.
“We should probably head home.” Amrin said with a monotone expression on his face. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking, but it kind of looked like he wasn’t really happy to see me walk in with my arm around Ken’s arm.
Lysander, Amrin, and Alexy left. Ken was about to leave when I grabbed his wrist. “I have some shorts that should be big enough for you to borrow for you to take a shower and we can throw your clothes in the dryer.” I offered. I didn’t want to see him walking home soaking wet.
“You don’t have to do that Rain. I’ll be fine.” He smiled at me.
“Oh come on your taking a shower and getting dry.” I said pulling his into my room so that I could rummage through my drawers and pull out a pair of boys basketball shorts that were big on me.
“Here you go.” I said turning around to see him staring at what was on my dresser.
“You kept it all this time?” He smiled a bit.
“Of course I did. I named him hope. When I’m sad I usually take him into bed with me.” I said looking at him then felt my face heat up at when I just said out loud.
He laughed lightly and walked over and took the shorts from me. “Thank you Rain. You go take a shower first.” He said.
I shook my head, “No you’re the guest you go take a shower. I don’t want you getting sick.” I said.
He sighed because he knew how stubborn I could be and he knew that verbally he wasn’t going to win this. “Fine I’ll be out shortly.” He said and I showed him to the bathroom and where the towels were then went back to my room.
I went over to my calendar to mark off today and realized that my birthday is on Saturday. I completely forgot about my birthday. Wow that shows myself how much I pay attention to things sometimes. Then the weekend after is the anime convention. I still have to finish my costume. So much work so little time.
A knock on my door made me jump out of my thoughts and I quickly turned around with my heart pounding. “I’m done.”
I felt my face instantly flush when I saw Ken standing there shirtless in my doorway. His hair was still wet and the little drips that were falling off the tips of his hair and onto his strong shoulders. He really had grown up. He wasn’t a little kid any more he had grown up into a man. A very sexy, six pack of abs and beautiful muscles definition man who was standing in my doorway wearing a pair of my shorts. I looked back up at his face and he had a smirk that spread across his lips.
“Is something wrong?” He asked.
“N-no, I-it’s nothing, nothing and all.” I laughed rubbing the back of my head the quickly turning around and pulling out some underwear, and a pair of shorts and tank top out of my dresser. “I-I’m going to go t-take a shower. T-the dryer is two doors down on your right.” I stumbled through my words as I tried not to look at him. My god why does seeing him like this do this to me. I heart didn’t race this bad last summer when I saw Lysander at the beach…of course I was more focused on seeing his tattoo then actually looking at him.
“Thanks Rain.” Ken said turning on his heals and walking down the hall.
I had to force myself to move from my spot and go to the bathroom to take a shower. I don’t think that I will ever be able to get that image out of my head. My god just…he’s…I can’t even describe how I feel right now. I quickly took a shower, dried off and got changed. After drying off my hair a bit more I wrapped my wet clothes in my towel and took it too my room. Ken was sitting on my bed with my DS and it sounded like he was playing pokemon. I smiled at him seeing that he hasn’t change that much in personality it seems some times.
“Are you hungry? I can make something.” I offered making him look up from my DS.
“I can help.” He said closing the DS after turning it off.
“You can keep playing I don’t mind.” I stated tossing my towel and we clothes in my hamper and then taking my hamper with me to the laundry room. I had to keep myself occupied so I wouldn’t stand there staring at him like a bumbling idiot. He went from this dork of a kid who was my best friend in the world to this sexy military man who has a bit more personality. And who’s not falling head over heals with me. He gives me more space and is not always hanging over me.
“No it’s alright. I enjoy cooking.” He said and I could hear him following me.
“But you’re the guest. I don’t want you have to do anything.” I said not looking at him as I put my clothes in the washer.
“I want to help.” He caught me off guard when he leaned on the dryer and making my heart skip when I saw him.
“A-alright, you can help.” I sighed trying to hide my blush at I closed the washer and started it up.
